I shot a Feral cat north of Cloncurry that weighed 22kgs, I took it back to MaryK where I was working and weighed it in front of my mates as I knew they wouldn't believe it if they didn't see it. If there are Panthers out there they must be well and truly inbred by now, such a small gene pool will ensure their eventual demise, if I ever seen one in the bush the only thing I would shoot it with would be a camera, Regards Frank
In Victoria, the Strathbogies and Mt Arthur are two spots where people I know personally swear black and blue they have seen Panthers or large cats. These are fairly stable and reliable peopel. Mind you the eyes and brain can play funny tricks at times.
My Grandfather , when he returned from WW2 told a story of three of four battalions who let thier mascots go in the hills particlly around queensland where he was sent for RR before returning home. I agree the bloodline would be gone now.
When I was working at Mary K (between Mt.Isa and Cloncurry), most nights my mate and I would go spotlighting feral cats, would manage about 20/night and the great majority of them were Ginger in colour, with sargents stripes down their legs, very good camoflage in the long grass, maybe they adapt to their surroundings, Regards Frank.

What a crock!
In WA it's called the Cordering Cougar
For a start not a crock you need to read 2 books Mud n Blood about World war 2. My grandfather was quite well known for his mascott " Smiler" a spider monkey who not only returned to Australia but also lived out his days at Adelaide zoo. In agreeance with Tank, The reason my grandfather explained for letting the cats and other mascotts go in Queensland and North Vic was the soilders couldnt bear the thought of the animals not being cared for properly.
