I have the remains of a 53 L/R 80 inch, got most of it kind off, when I say basket case I mean it will eventually need the intervention from the man up stairs to see it go again, I wont pics coz u will all larf , I am thinking the Holden engine is a loser of an idea, I thought it wouldnt have the steam in the rev department when needed most, in low range!, guess if I tweak the little 4 it will go for ever, u do take a new approach to driving when u own a landy, I remember my old series 2a was like wouldnt pull the skin of a custard on the road but in the scrub she left the other types for dead far as ability was concerned, u took your life into your own hands trying to corner quickly, we did a a disgraceful 180 degree spin on our first venture u cant hairpin corner a landy at 35 mph, so I had to re evaluate things and decided why be in a hurry let the other tempory citizens scream of into oblivion we will get there in the end, I am guessing the new beasty will require the same thinking and figure she could act just as disgracfully as the old 2a given the same circumstances,
I might ask, are 7.50 x16s still made?

If i had my way i would drag home every old series beast i could find, in the interests of continued matrimonial harmony I have 2 and 2 is all i am allowed to have, i know the series landys fairly well far as fixing them and generally keeping them going, i really need a nice holden carby so i can throw the current thing up the street, after i hit it with a stick, whos got a spare one?

I may be able to help in the old Holden parts area. I have a friend with more parts than you can poke a stick at.
As for The driving thing. Thats a series issue. The TD5 with mod chips is more how not to leave the ricers in your wake. I find it funny when I stop at the light and there is nothing behind me and 10 cars in the lane next to me. I find I'm often through the intersection when the first car is still moving off.

Hi, she do got the 5 digit speedo with odo, I figured it could have clocked but using the original history which shows mileage at various times during routine services I deemed the mileage to be original, I could be wrong, I usually am just ask my wife

I found with my series 2a that people were less inclined to scoot through giveway signs if they saw the landy coming, I used to get the odd smart comment from youngsters coz she was ex army like "wheres the war", such narrow minded people are around still even today, I would dearly love a holden carby to play with if u could find one for me I would quiet happy.

How does one extract v12 performance from a 2.25 4 cyl, anyone know if the leyland built engines are better or worse then the earlier donks, when i got mine she was siezed, I filled her with a mixture of diesel and wd40, everyday i walk past i jumped on the crank handle and one day she broke free, we fired it up and shes as tight as a nut, doesnt blow smoke or have any blowby so I think shes ok, she needs a major service.

    G'day Landyfromanutherland

    Welcome to AULRO

Your Landy sounds like a 4 cylinder Series 2a "1ton" model (raised chassis with extended shackles front & rear, and fitted with 11 leaf front springs and 8 rear, it also sounds like it has an "Athol Hedges" brand steel roof, which has rounded front and rear corners, on the Left Rear spring hanger just above the spring shackle you will find the Chassis No that will indicate what model it is, has it got the Aust Army Cut front guards,or standard fronts, the best way to get better performance out of a 2.25 litre 4 cyl, is to fit a set of extractors and a 2 inch exhaust system with a free flow muffler that's what is fitted to mine (1968 2a LWB Ex-Army) and I can sit on 90+ on the highway with 7.50 x 16's. the original Zenith Carby tuned correctly is good, with a Holden Carby you need an early model as one off a 186/202 will only drown the motor with petrol, early grey motor FE-to-EJ Holdens are best, the Landrover replacement carb for the original Solex or Zenith is a Webber 34-ICH model

    cheers

Sure do. Bridgestone do the Jeep Service brand and Firestone have Triple Traction. Both are 8 ply, but I think you can also get 16 ply too.

    Cheaper than your average Simex
