The main question is........What engine will They drop into the Defender, it seems that each owner has their own ideas as to the power plant and now that the D3 and Rangies are pretty much separate drivetrains from the defender they might decide to drop TATA's Mitubishi based Turbo Diesel in the fender.

Parts compatability nightmare from the Isuzu, 200TDI, 300TDI, TD5, Ford Transit thing (whatever it's called) and then the ?.

If you think LR service is bad now, wait until you try calling LR for parts and service now, it will go to a call centre where they wont understand that you want to talk to someone in spare parts today and you cant wait for them to call you back and if you give them your number every man and his dog will ring you because they will also sell your info.

Just a rough prediction from my run inns with Indian companies.

They do make a tough work truck though a bit underpowered and heavy with no resale in aust what so ever.

Chances are IMO it will not make a difference at all because by the time LR decide to change its next shape its next drive line up date TATA will sell it of to GM

I thought the current model was dead in 2010, from then on to be built on the Disco platform. Be willing to bet it'll be an optioned down Disco with a Defender body.

Hopefully they won't do the Royal Enfield thing other wise we could see the re-introduction of the S2 as the lastest and greatest. Come to think of it is that a bad thing.

    Hi there all

I must admit the indian companies do not have a good name for them selfs but its like politics only time will tell.

On a positive note we are now seeing quite a few of the 8x8 TATA trucks being used in the mining industry and they are performing well indeed.

    All the best

Well Another day comes & goes & we get a new owner. One could only hope they respect the marque enough to use it as a driving platform to improve their own equipment already in development & leave the Solihull crew to their own devices. We can live in hope.

I agree with an earlier post, they are more british than brits. As a developing powerhouse of economy we may get to see $30K disco & fenders after all they have a huge consumer market & nothing drives pricing quotiants down like domestic demand.

TATA will want every possible upwardly mobile Hindu to support Made in India. Watch out for a logo change featuring Brahma. & way out ads in the mystical peaks where people find themselves.

Ahhhh one day I thought we would get an owner who respected our desires to be outdoors in wild enchanted places. I cant wait for their for ad. Dubbed of course. Made in Bollywood featuring .........a bright new star. Ohhh the brand penetration. Finally.

Ps I hate ford & new they would shaft us. Prestige Auto Group my Ars3.
