What is not known by the rest of the world, is the fact that the plane that crashed yesterday missed by about 50-300m an ammo dump.
When I first arrived in 2009 I was trying to influence 2 x Ugandan Generals to better situate the bulk ammunition dump that the Ugandan Force had been using, since 2007.
It is/was located 50m from the edge of the runway, and it was between 50-100m from the AMISOM Military Hospital. Any problem with their ammo dump will/would cause the close down of the Mogadishu runway for probably, at least 7 days.

Unfortunately, the AMISOM and Ugandan Commanders were more frightened of the local threat against any ammunition dump sited at least 1.5km from the airport. They could not imagine what it would mean for the runway to be closed down, for at least 7 days, if there was a problem with their ammo dump.
Such storage needs to be below ground and, in an area where ammunition can be dealt with properly...not beside the ONLY runway in a place where you might want to get out of....quickly!
Hopefully, the problem of yesterday will help them to make better decisions.
Be known for what you did. Not, for what you bought.
