I normally look forward to seeing your posts and great pics, but today was a shock

It makes one realize how fragile life can be and like you say, lives have been changed forever.

    Wadda Bewdy

Saw this yesterday and had to take some photos. It is a LHD that originally came out of Holland.

The owner is a Dutch diplomat that works with the Dutch Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda, and they are in the middle of a 4 x week drive from Kigali, through Tanzania, around the north of Mozambique, and back to Rwanda via Malawi and Zambia.

We chatted for a while and we were able to determine that his brother, who is in the Dutch military had been with me in Tarin Kowt...this world is so bloody tiny.

A bit of a drive today...

Had to go out of town some today. I love driving here in Moz/Africa because, never a day goes by that you are not going to be challenged by something that you would otherwise, have never imagined.

Nothing new here, the usual well laden charcoal truck making it's way toward Pemba. This is what is steadily de-foresting Africa.

A truck full of rock, did not spend much time behind this bloke.

The usual, public transport into and out of the city, driving along country roads...look hard, the back of this truck is absolutley packed with people, hence the lads hanging onto the back.

Then, I came across this. As I was driving and approached it I thought...Mmmm...they have backed into the slope to load a container.

Then, looked more as I drew closer...and they were loading a truck onto the back of the truck. I turned around and come back to take these photos. Incredible.

It had had some sort of accident...only God knows...

The driver of the recovery truck and his mates...

Mozambique.....and Africa.....in general. Gotta love it.

    Scary Story

Been down here in Maputo since Friday, staying in a hotel. Sat down for breakfast in the restaurant. Two Mozambican gentlemen were sat at a table nearby, when a European looking gentleman come to join them. I thought he was South African....then, I heard that annoying nasal drawl that comes out of Oztralians...it caught my attention.

I warned his friends that were with him...in Portuguese..."Careful, they tell me there are Australians around here"...they both burst into laughter.

He and I then had a conversation that revealed we knew a number of people in common. Including a friend who is now working in my company, and another friend I have in Uganda. He knew my previous boss from when I was working in Mogadishu....and....he used to be in the Australian Army.

Then, this is what threw me.....he used to play Rugby for a rather poor Rugby team in Townsville called 1 RAR,with my younger brother. He was a prop and my brother was a 2nd row.......another small world story....scary!

This bloke now lives in Uganda and has been making a living in east Africa for the past 9yrs, running a company providing drilling services. Water bores and geo-survey. Plenty of business for him here in Africa at the moment.

    Jake,

Would really enjoy it if I could. Busy here, and look at this:

I have to be here to do the QA auditing to make sure the tide comes in and out....the horror of it all!!

    Enjoy Inhambane...Barra Lodge?
