LOL...no...though is a few around, including spitting cobras. It is a cable tie attached to a piece of material he was carrying at the time.

I don't think snakes enter into the diet. Interesting to know though, ask a Somali in Mogadishu what their favourite fodder would be and, the answer is likely to be........spag bolognaise...makes you think at first and then you recall,..... it was once an Italian colony.

Well, tonight was local fish. We do have the luxury of at least 2 x flights a week so we get most of our meat etc out of Uganda which is pretty good.

Pretty much staples are rice, pasta, and what the South Africans call 'mealie pap'...or we call Xima in Mozambique..ground maize meal cooked up.

Last week we had local lobster...and we get melons and pineapples etc from the locals selling them down by the airport....and beers...well we can't talk about that sort of stuff!!!

This Bloke Dropped in for a Coffee...

This bloke dropped in for a coffee the other night...

He seems to be a Gecko, not unlike those of northern Australia. I was interested to see the massive monitors they have here, running around in the thorn bush, up to 2m in length....same as in Oz. Reminds of the fact that we were all the same bit of Gondwana once...a long time ago.

The Before and After on a 'dingled' Casspir

The following photos are of a Burundian Casspir that suffered some damage during a convoy in Mogadishu...it rammed into the back of something else.

The men are the Burundian (Forces Defence Nacional) FDN mechanics that participated in the rebuild and, Rudi my mechanic supervisor, from South Africa.

Rudi comes from the factory that manufactures the armoured vehicle fleet.

    Andy,

The English AU or the French UA stand for 'African Union' or 'Uniao Afrique' respectively.

This is continental policy US style and it is the US trying to support the African Continent in solving their own issues. DynCorp, who I am working for are the US Dept of State's biggest contractor trying to do the national building stuff wherever.

Currently we are also supporting logistically a 2 X Bde push by the Ugandan military launched from south Sudan into the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) chasing the Lord's Resistance ArmyLord's Resistance Army - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia...the lawless boys led by Mr Kony who has been causing chaos in central Africa for too long.

We are supporting the operation with 10 log/admin flights/week (I am soon out of here for a week out in Kampala...3wks in 1 wk out for a breather) Part of my week out will have me flying in to inspect the airfield from where we are supporting the operation. Should be interesting.

This is the US trying to solve African problems by proxy. It is difficult to do it with US military interventions...remember 'Blackhawk Down'...In response to the need DynCorp is establishing a continental Africa Office. Future business could include stuff in Zimbabwe.

I am happy to be here, Africa is a special place.
