A brilliant report, as always. Thanks.
Don.
Gday all,
Out of quarantine.
Been busy in the last couple of weeks. First, project work with the organisation that I used to wear a uniform in before, delivering emergency warden training for significant base locations between Syd and Melb.
Then, last Wed I was flown up to Canberra by a company who are submitting a tender for the provision of services to the govt on two islands in the pacific...one starts with an M...and the other with an N
. They want me to come on as the Transition Manager prior to the award of the contract. It is really weird that a Duntroon mate of mine, is the man that is currently running it....anyway.
Then, I have just come back from Perth today....another company flew me over to meet with their CEO. Subject to them getting the finance in place...I will be going back to a country I have worked in before.
It is a crazy world to be caught between such prospects..anyway...day by day.
Will let you know what happens....when it happens.![]()

To All,
I am still linked and keeping in touch with our Ebola Team over in Sierra Leone. Things are always changing there. For those that are interested, this is a valuable information source maintained by International SOS:

My goodness.....
Had a great afternoon, attended the Black Harmony Gathering this afternoon, here in Melbourne.
It was a close gathering and had a really good feel to it. One of the shows were the Burundi Drummers, a really vibrant and engaging act, done by a dozen Burundians. I have a real connect with Burundi, given that I had supported their military (between 3 - 4000 troops) in Mogadishu as part of AMISOM between 09-12.
After they had finished their event, I went down and introduced myself with the Burundians....a great experience. I had worked with thousands of Burundians in Mogadishu, flying them in and out, providing their water, food, fuel, ammo, and armoured vehicles etc.
I had two Burundi names on my phone. One was their Commander during 2010 and another was their Logistics Commander in 2011. The oldest member of the Burundi Drummers identifed the LogComd as being his cousin....he SMSd his cousin...and the SMS message came back in French..."BBC ... il est un homme bon"...BBC ...he is a good man.
Burundian contingent being flown into Mogadishu on one of the flights I managed.
Another one of those small world stories...really made my day.

Have signed off on a 3mth contract starting soon, to become the Transition Manager for a company that is competing to take on the service to a certain government...on two interesting islands called:
Nanus and Marau...
At least they will be a bit bloody warmer than what Melbourne is at the moment!!
Have also got my name in with some Australian entities that have a growing interest in mining in Mozambique...for graphite...we shall see.

G'day all,
For 8 years, between Sep 94 - Mar 02, there were 31 Royal Australian Engineers deployed on Op Coracle, the Australian contribution to the UN Accelerated De-mining Program (UNADP) in the southern half of Mozambique...yes...I was on that!!
Lately, I have connected up with a few of the lads and there is the intent, and a few of us are making the moves, toward getting the collective story related.
There has been some good attention paid to the stories of our ADF deployments. But....to date...very little attention has been paid toward Op Coracle. We think that has been because, attention is paid when a unit deploys. We were 2-4 individuals who deployed over the eight years and overlapped by 1-2 weeks.
But....our collective effort toward the operations of UNADP has proven to be a significant development success for Mozambique. The collective story needs to be collected and related.
I have been relating here in Melb with Don Hughes, he was the OC for the 2nd rotation in the 1st half of 1995. He appears in this report by Current Affair from 1996 (I never knew about this article before it was related to me last night!!), a good account of the reality that was Mozambique at that time:
[ame="https://youtu.be/EAEfBHX-N5I"]https://youtu.be/EAEfBHX-N5I[/ame]
He & I are soon to be relating with Dr Manning...she has put together a considerable account of ADF operations and was employed by Army for a couple of years to do so....we hope to be able to table a strategy to get the story together, and then get it out to the world...we shall see.
