I'll step in:
The countries we live in have legislated that vehicles should meet emission and safety standards...the Defender is just hanging in there..if the legislation was retrospective then the Puma Defender would be the only Defender on or off the road.The point you all keep dodging is why make something more complicated than it needs to be.
Forgive me I must be a little thick.Still havent answered the question on the plus $50,000 difference between the vehicles either.
The new Defender costs about $50,000. When did a new Defender ever cost $0.
My basic non ECU Disco cost $48,000 when new 13 years ago.
Only if we move to India (see comment above).Perhaps Tata will bring us back a decent defender. I can only hope.![]()

I base my opinion on my life experience and I would like to think its fairly comprehensive. As for not answering questions re mechanical problems. I have several times. I will repeat it again though. If something mechanical fails in a well maintained simple vehicle there is usually a work around or at least you are aware what the problem is.
