Andrew, thank you and your wife very much for the offer but we'll try either Williams or Narrogin. We really don't want to put you out.

Narrogin looks to have ample accommodation and it looks like it isn't too far from Williams if you don't mind having us drop around in the late arvo after you finish work or in the evening.

I haven't worked out a date yet. We are planning from both ends of the calendar.

We'll be going New Norcia -> York. I want to look at the Motor Museum so we'll stay the night there. From there, out to Wave Rock and maybe stay overnight there, thence to Narrogin/Williams.

We'd love any suggestions on things to stop and see.

The plan is to go from Narrogin/Williams to Albany, stay a few days there, then head west.

We want go to the Valley of the Giants again. We last went there in 1971 as you can see:

Our old Forester which our daughter now drives is 1590mm - I'm told by Subaru. I have to measure it when she comes around next.

Nevertheless, Great Southern Railways have said they have had Foresters receive roof damage as they bounce in transit so they are no longer permitted to travel.
    G'day Ron,

Let the tyres (half) down as you go on, then you'll fit nicely.

I do have family in Perth and there may well be a spare car available - I'd have to check. Let me know if you want me to follow this up.

Thanks for the offer Willem but we'll be fine with the Forester. Elisabeth can drop me somewhere and drive off!

Ron,you WOULDNT be putting us out in any way at all.
More than happy to have you stay the nite,NO LEAVING THE RONALD JINX!!!!.
At least you can have a few Reds or my famous HOME BREWS and not have to worry about the LAW.
Guessing you have heard of "THE TREE TOP WALK",if not do a google, you can look at the tops of the trees.

Trudi and I visited exactly the same tree in 1974 on our honeymoon and we have a photo of our red Toyota Celica in the same spot as your car. You can't take a car in there anymore, though last time we were there, quite a few years ago, you could still walk in to the tree.

The south west of WA is a magnificent place to visit. I grew up in the Harvey/ Bunbury area and often visited the Manjimup Pemberton area, and also down to Albany. Margaret River and Augusta.

Ron, its a beautiful area. Have a great time travelling with Elizabeth.

Just after we drove out, a large tour bus drove into the tree. I have a photo here.

I wonder how many cars/buses have parked in that tree.

Thanks again Andrew but we aren't even sure we'll get to Williams.

We have yet to decide how to get from Wave Rock to Albany.

Are Ravensthorpe/Hopetoun worth visiting noting that we don't fish?

I think there is an AULRO member at Ravensthorpe who might be able to tell me.

We are trying to work out how to best fill the 5 days between leaving Wave Rock and arriving in Albany. We're staying in Albany for 5 days and using it as a base.

There is a 250km dirt road from Hyden (near wave rock) to Norseman. Lots of 4x4 tracks north and south of there. Plenty of salty lakes to see, etc. From Norseman you could head down to the NPs around Esperance, then back along the coast to Albany.

Thanks Ben. I wonder if Elisabeth would let me drive her new Forester on 4x4 tracks?

After WA, we are going back to SA. Jeez, that ferry trip to Kangaroo Island is expensive - $325 return.
