How does one cut the stainless pipe best? Is it necessary to use any adhesives between the joiners and pipe?
Drop saw, 4-5" grinder, 9" anything

No adhesive with the stainless, PVC, could do with a little pipe cement, but easier not to goo it, so its easy to pull off to fit a steel/stainless one

    Snorkel /rollframe combo?
Following on from photos in an earlier post of a Defender with a steel tube snorkel and also an external roll cage frame: Would like to make a snorkel for mine and a roll frame / heavy roof rack supporter could be handy too. Has anyone seen or heard of the snorkel pipe - of 3 inch or thereabouts diameter and appropriate thickness being positioned so it is also an upright for the frame and the separate upright on that side could be dispensed with?

If I make one, hope to have a go at this.

Yep we had to heat and expand it a bit to fit over the air filter arm.

Well we did away with the join in the middle to shorten it
We ended up just cutting and shortening it then expanding it over a bit of the join pipe (hard to explain)

It didn't turn out to bad

By the way dad priced a snorkel head at TJM today between 100 and $150
Does anyone no where to get a better deal??
He also priced a precleaner head $37 so that might be the go

Since, after a front tyre blowout, my son rolled our 1985 RRC and took a couple of chips of bone out of his spine, this idea of a combined snorkel/roll bar really appeals to me. So please let us know if any one does this.

$100 or more for that bit of plastic ( TJM or ARB head) is daylight robbery.
The Donaldson pre-cleaner at around the $40 mark would be the go - keep more dust and bugs out of your aircleaner too.

    John F / Mox,

The Defender with the cage and snorkle is mine.

I think you would be struggling to make a cage, which could be approved to any rollcage / motorsport regulations which could double up as a snorkle.

I have seen people using backstays and diagnols as resevoirs for fluids, but never anyone using a 3" diamater pipe for an air intake and cage combination.

I think you would struggle to maintain the strength and integrity of the cage by cutting holes in it top and bottom to get the air in and out.

The new svx Defender 90's in the UK have a 3" cage made (I think) by a company called Protection and Performance in the uk but I think it looks a bit over bearing. If it isnt made by them for LR it is a near identical copy (Incidentally the cage on my 90 started life as one of their motorsport cages which I ammended to suit my needs)

    you can see it here

Protection and Performance Land Rover SVX Style 60th<br />Anniversary Conversion

I didnt think this was structural but they are saying it is, although it is made out of ERW, not CDS so....its maybe not the strongest option.

I guess that if you didnt want it for any form of competition you could do it, and it probably wouldnt be that difficult to do, although how you would get the air in at the top corner would be interesting.

You may also get poor visibility on the pillars.

I would probably just go for a roll hoop and that will give you the majority of the safety net that a full cage gives., and a seperate snorkle.

Edited to add, obviously all the mounting points need to go to the chassis and there is no way that you can get 3" pipe between the wing skin and the side of the bulkhead footwell.

    Rgds
    Pete
