Thinking or all the jobs I've done over the years , I reckon getting the little bit of broken rear half shaft out of the Diff on a Series 2a would have to be up there . It was so twisted there was no way to drive It out . Had to take the Diff to bits . A rotten job , thank goodness for the Salisbury !!..

Any part that happens to need $ spent on it.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

The way it makes my wallet feel.

I don't actually hate any part of it consistently, frustrating sometimes though.

I did spark plugs on my subaru a few months back, took about 3 hours, feeding tools into too small holes to try and extract the appropriate bits. That said the timing belt was a joy almost, everything came apart and went back together as per the instructions, no surprises. Complex suckers compared to the 300tdi

i spent most of day trying to track down an intermittent fault with the brake lights and once again this pox ridden little switch was the crux of the problem.

nigh on impossible to get out in one piece after a few years just to add that extra bit of joy .... so i get to spend another hour or two trying to get the broken bit out before i can experience the joy of fitting a new one..

    DUH,

un bout the complete assembly IE 2 bolts. unplug the switch wires that feed though the bulkhead. and you can swap out the switch while you in bed or where ever. very simple job

Can only speak for my '95 Classic (when comparing it to similar-year "Other Brands" )

The engine. IMHO a total embarrasment. gutless wonder with a drinking problem, and known weakness for slipping liners.. even the fact that said liners CAN move is bad enough... I used to drive a petrol patrol that towed more than its own weight, at only 30% more fuel than mine...which is incapable of much beyond a 6x4 trailer/lounge suite... and did it almost as quick as my unloaded Classic... Got the speeding fine to prove it !

I could stand the fuel bill, if I had power, or live with the lack of it if it was easier on the juice... and could be trusted on a very hot day not to pop the radiator or heater core. - Don't ask why I say that !

Should have been a decent turbo-diesel from day One. A tD5 in a Classic makes mine look even more stupid.

It will be the engine that causes Sarah to be sold. Not 'if' just 'when'.

Front lower shock mount nut on any coil sprung Land Rover. PITA!

Just happen to be doing them right now too.
    Cheers
