    Three on one.
Give the warning, use pepper spray, tackle him from behind, use baton and tackle him, then the gun.
I feel sorry for police to have to deal with this but surely a few burly coppers should have been able to take down a teenager.
If and possibly regardless, of him ignoring pepper spray, there is no way I would expect ANYONE to go near a crazy man threatening them with knives.

The police are doing their job, and not threatening people. I'm sure you get all the "safety at work" crap, I would not accept my staff getting slashed and possibly killed or permanently injured for some random who is incapable of respecting the world he lives in.

Sorry to disagree a little, i fully understand your point of view. There are always things that could be done.

    Cheers!

I wonder what you would say if they had tried that and one of the police officers had been killed...

I wonder if we will ever hear the post mortem result ?? What cocktail of stuff was this kid on??
I drove taxi's around Melb part time over 25 years till about 7 years ago. What killed it for me was the increasing frequency of drugged & off thier face teenagers. They were so unpredictable. There was always drunks, thats an integral part of the job & you soon learnt to handle them ( as did the cops).
Our society is changed for the worse and the police have had to change or suffer the consequences.
In a way it was fortunate that 3 opened fire as that should share the responsibility.
Has anybody considered another Hoddle St/ Port Arthur was averted??

Many years ago in my military life I was on shore leave and witnessed a guy drugged to the eyeballs abusing 2 cops...

He charged at them wielding a knife...

After 2 shots centre mass he was STILL advancing...

8 rounds later he was on the ground.

Bumped up junkies cannot feel the pain, removing a vital organ is unfortunately often a requirement.

I support the cops on this one... If my life was threatened and I couldnt avoid it, I'd plug holes in my attacker too...

And yes, I have done the training... Its not that easy....

Stop the BS conspiracy theories, 99% of the cops are good people doing a thankless and dangerous job...

Get real people - a 15 year old is just as dangerous as a 30 year old...
Modern teens have much less respect for life and property than their forefathers...

If this incident makes 2 or more other teens 'wake up to themselves' then this has had a positive effect for the benefit of the many.

I have spent a total of 6 years under arms. These years were spent in some of the world’s best holiday spots (don’t for get to pack your wife and your 5 grand stereo)
There are some simple rules that I learn very quickly

Never talk to a pre puberty with a gun if you do you are dead
Speak to an early teen once only
In there 20s judge there nervousness, if a bit hypo don’t talk, if quiet negotiate
Only people who were in there 30s or over would we take the time to negotiate or talk.

    As for hand guns.
I don’t know what these cops are armed with but I suspect it would have been a Glock 9mm.in my opinion they are a cheep plastic bit of crap. Having said that they are light on the belt. I would how ever go to the 10mm and cut the weapon back to a double action.
A Glock is quite light. Light weapons are hard to aim. In the mid 90s I was carrying Colts 1910 pattern in 45 cal.
As for shooting in the leg. Well just look at a leg, its not very wide, it has a big bit of bone in the middle. So shoot the leg, hit the bone = amputate the leg ( the bone shatters doing much damage to the soft stuff around) or not hit the bone but hit the artery and the kids dead in 1 minute anyway!

A shot to the gut usually will stop a man ( in pain) but a shot to the chest usually will not, even a shot to the heart will not always stop a man ( a shot to the heart still leaves a response time of up to 90 seconds) only a shot to the head or base of the neck will guarantee to stop a man, and we don’t want the cops doing that.

I really Hate people who have comments to post, people who believe they are so correct in there comments, yet they have never been is such a situation have usually only a Hollywood knowledge if any of the real world and how these situations develop and pan out. The press pi55 me off because they don’t print every time a cop has been assaulted shot at stabbed etc. they just print some distorted rubbish to sell papers.

As for the Kid, taking any weapon to a cop = Darwin was correct
His parents, well I guest hay should have been that in the first place responsible parents.
For the cops, unfortunately there lives will come under a microscope there lives and the jobs as cops will never bee the same again and we the public will suffer because of that.

I just showed this to an Ex Bobby mate of mine and he had some words to describe this comment that I cant post!!!

In the UK he was a Bobby then he became a member of their "First response Team" and armed team in a high speed van that attended when "Bobby with Batton and CapSpray" didnt work.. Or assailant was armed...

In this instance they would have been called, and the outcome the same...

i have witnessed this often, more so with modern handguns

Bumped up junkies cannot feel the pain, removing a vital organ is unfortunately often a requirement.

Head neck or loss of blood

    Yes TWO cans, din't work,
I would not have gone near him, nor one of my men,
    even with long arms.

One spray put me on my ass, let alone one can.

    "a short extending baton"
I was thinking of those long wooden batons some of which have a short handle on the side.

Then if that didn't work , use the gun
I am not against the police using guns if they have to
