Band of Brothers is the best series, but to my way of thinking, one of the better war movies (and often not recognised as a war movie), is Speilberg's 1987 Empire of the Sun with a (then) very young Christian Bale starring........has depth, an incredible Mustang flying sequence and great music and is in part a story of "ordinary people" caught up in the war.

Don't think I've seen that one ... have to see if they've got it at the video store & see if I recognise the cover.

second that Panda, Band of Brothers is great, but Saving privite Ryan was a good film, up in the bell tower where they fight with a baynet and he slowly pushes it in. many great parts though.

Yea, that was a very good movie ...

Not really a movie, but in a slightly different vein, Dad's Army followed by Hogan's Heros.

Kelly's heroes is a great watch, but Breaker Morant is currently my fav.

If you want movies about what happens when ordinary people are caught up in wars, try "King and Country" (nominated for 4 BAFTA Awards and Tom Courtenay won Best Actor at the 1964 Venice Film Festival) and "Paths of Glory" (Directed by Stanley Kubrick).
