My brother was pulled up for doing a right hand turn accross a divided road(no right turn except farm vehicles).
He said that the chances of the cop catching must be two hundred to one.
"Why is that sir?" says cop.
"Well I have made that turn two hundred times before and you never caught me!" says he.

He didn't get a let off.

On my way to work one morning I got stopped for speeding and told the copper I was running late for work....
His reply was, and now your gonna be really late.....
So dont use that excuse, it wont help..

They ask you if there is a reason you are speeding to give you a chance to defend yourself, apparently it also helps to diffuse angry people and give the plod a chance to sum the person up - ie their attitude.

Used to get a fair bit of attention from them in my Alpina until I took myself down to the station and had a chat to Mr Senior Sargent.. since then, I have not heard boo from any of them

If there is any reason - late for work, sorry i stuffed up etc, then you're being honest.
both times i've been sprung, i've never denied it, simply stated that i was concentrating on the road and my surroundings, not the speed indicated on the odometer.... didnt get me anywhere though.... second time it got me a bloody lecture about how much of a "life endangering offence" 114 along the highway is.....

Presumably you managed to prevent yourself from explaining that it's not the speeding that kills but the stopping
