Why would you rebuild the elec temp controller? Easier to just replace. If you bother to check refrigeration specialist catalogues this would become apparent and was pointed out to me by a family member who is a fridgie. Also the compressor is a Danfoss type so parts are easily obtainable.
Yes the Engels have advanced with technology but they are still the most bullet proof of all fridges. Not saying there is anything wrong with other types and budgets, it horses for courses and I would have an Engel in preference, but that could change with finances available should I require a replacement.
Compressor in Engel is not a Danfoss, it is a Sawafuji swing type.

My last one did 30 years and I changed it because it was so old and would only freeze to minus 12.
My new one has been running 24 hours a day since I bought it and it has been faultless.
Personally I cant speak highly enough of the brand.
There were some bad ones in the mid 80s though

Engels are one of those good pieces of kit that you will always treasure.

Plus, maybe it's a bit strong to call it life and death but a fridge failure in a remote area can be a huge inconvenience.

No different to most things, but a lot depends on who you buy the parts from too.

    X2

Mines done 28 yrs, been banged & thumped all round the country,& still goes no worries, has never missed a beat.It is getting a bit rusty,& the compresser is starting to get noisy.

As for a new one,i have no idea as havent had to go down that road yet.

If the compresser does need changing,i will do it myself & fill it up with the good old R12,still got a bit in stock.
