Then you get stuck behind them at 60km/hr for the next 5 mins until you get to overtake them.

Thanks for that, it just proves what I am trying to say. A public road is NO place for a push bike because you have NO protection when some drunk/drugged/fool in a car decides he has more right to your couple of square centremetres of road than you!!!!

The biggest argument I've heard is that 'they' don't obey the road rules - well neither do a hell of a lot of drivers. From their side, 'theyy say they're allowed to ride on the road - well they are, but if you can't maintain the traffic flow or present a danger to yourself or other motorists, then I don't feel 'they' should be on the road.

I had a '43 Jeep and it didn't like anything past 50kph (okay maybe I didn't), anyway, it had full rego so I paid my way and was allowed to use the road. Say I wanted to go for a run up the freeway..at 50kph on a Friday arvo when everyone else is trying to get home or go on holidays - is it appropriate that i clog up a lane because 'it's my right!!!'.

There is an offence of unreasonable obstruction, and in that example it would be upheld.

I think it's great that people can commute by cycle and it's great they're keeping fit, but there's a time and place and unfortunately the roads and routes are not designed for cyclists - cycling is still considered by the RTA etc as a recreational pursuit, not a legitimate means of transport.

So all the us v. them stuff, in the most part it's not appropriate for them to be on the road in peak periods - and for the ones who say, 'well it's my life' - that's rubbish - it's the poor bugger who squashes them, the poor bugger who scrapes them off the road/out of wheel wells, the poor bugger who knocks on the door and tells the rello's and the remaining family. I reckon they're selfish to rely on the 'it's my right' argument.

    My 2 bob.

Sooo...everyone moaning about cyclists, get off your collective bums and please assist getting these troublesome road users off the mainstream roads by lobbying local and state governments to provide bicycle only lanes that are both safe and expediant for the cyclist to use.

Yes, that's a valid idea but when we consider the financial state of the State, there's no way that's going to happen. And why should someones front yard get shrunk to build a cycleway.

I hear a common argument from cyclists is that they don't want to ride on cycle lanes because they can't ride at the speed they want to....

Do I lobby for a vintage car lane....not many people would back me on that one.

It's gonna be a long long battle, but at the end of the day people hate sitting in traffic, they hate paying for rego, tolls and parking fines - all the things cyclists don't directly pay for - and cars/bikes have rego plates, so when they take a punt with the rules, they (might) get pinged - more bills. All that frustration can lead to agro directed to..................cyclists?

Go on then, I have worked with Bicycle NSW, am a member of the largest bike club in Sydney which is active in Pr and advocacy, take part in street parades (often on a unicycle ), and assist with two local council cycleway committees. What are you now going to do?

Thought I should clarify (as my original post was a little muddled); the cyclist and I were approaching the corner, and he veered to the right (i.e. close to the middle of the road) before the corner.
