Had a ball over the weekend on a Karri Forest to Coast trip. Loads of mud, deep water crossings, the 1km high Calcup Hill dune climb and deep river crossing all in 3 days and all within 4 hours of Perth, who would have thought! Fair bit of dune erosion, usually you can keep going along to beach until hitting the cliffs, although it was completely eroded about 2 kms from the Warren R. so we cut back into the dunes and carried on.
Will update this with a youtube vid when it's finished uploading.
A bit of context to the pics, this crossing was our only way forward, if you look at the picture taken 20M down stream, the sediment has collected and it wasn't even walkable.
I'm still getting used to what obstacles require extra height and what do not, turns out that mud hole would have been easily achievable in standard off-road hieght and I'm almost certain I would have then got through it with the extra traction available. The fact that only 1 vehicle made it up (with a fair amount of momentum mind you), without taking the chicken track is a little less disheartening though.
The photo of the LC100s on the dune was the first obstacle for the trip and none of us did it without dropping to 10/12PSI due to it being heavily rutted out at the entrance, speed wasn't sufficient any lower, plus soft sand!
Some deep crossings not pictured, above the door sills too (freshwater was a relief after having to cross the mouth earlier on)
Several hours spent attacking the undercarriage with a hose and soap yesterday, and more to come today. Was an action packed 3 days though, quite impressed in what's on offer down there.
You're a braver man than I Russ...don't mind the sand and the mud, but the salt water would tend to put me off. After 40 years of boating, I'm allergic to it:-)
Trust me Greg, I wasn't keen on the idea either, but there was no other route. It's not as bad as it looks though, if you check the LF, it's already at it's deepest point, and if you continue on to Chesapeake Road, there's some nice deep and wide (about 4 inches above the door-line) freshwater crossings to give it a wash. Add to that the wash down at home and I'm not too worried.
I washed and hosed everything though, battery removed, engine bay washed, chassis inside and out, removed all covers, washed again, removed wheels, hosed out drums, e,t,c e,t,c...
Beware though, some mud has just as high salt content as the ocean! And the fact that it clings to everything like glue makes it even worse!

A bit of fun! Bogged for the first time at 1:30! haha. Had to christen the max trax eventually. Came to the top of the dune and the track disappeared off to the left, by the time I found it I'd had to hit the brakes and bogged down...Rock Crawl, one track LF another RR and walked out...
Excellent photos Russ. My SWMBO would have been packing her pants had she been in your passenger seat. I just showed her the pics. "Don't you ever try that stunt with me on board."
But as I told her, "if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space."
Haha Rosie drove the first time over, but when I went over again on the way out it had gone up 200mm overnight! Wasn't even that much rain.. Should be noted we were with someone who had taken this crossing several times and had photos for comparison shots to vehicles passing last year, we also walked the beach crossing before taking it. Calculated risks I suppose you'd call it!
Crazy how much the dunes change though, just 6 months ago what was a driveable beach is now completely gone with just a drop off into the ocean where we had to head into the dunes.
The deep crossing pictured as mentioned rose 200mm overnight for us, last year it rose from passable to 2M in 24 hours!
