Ive done it,
I'll post photos and details latter tonight.
Moved this from another post about recent D3 Errors and faults to a new post from here
Hope your ladies and gents don't mind but it may be a wider topic than it started from or just a little more focused to my selfish agenda sorry.
Very interested if anyone has used a D4 Style rear lights on a D3? I thought the entire rear LED light assembly is only about $100 from the UK I thought but I can only find a $1000 option today. But LED globes are very common now and given they last a LOT better than the incandescent light bulbs which cause me problems I am interested in this option if it works or doesn't cuase me more problems.
I asked at Ritta and it was suggested that this rear tail LED light option might cause the same issues as LED tralier lights on our D3s.
Has anyone done it. Any thought or expiriances appreciated.
Every time a globe goes half my cars systems become more than a little off colour affecting Gears, suspension, traction controls all or some of and only at times.

I replaced my brake/tail globes with LED replacement ones and problems gone ( touch wood ) Just have to get the ones that have the LEDs that face forward as well as back as the light needs to reflect off the reflector. As for the indercators you would need to fit a resistor or you will get probs. I didnt do these as they dont give any dramas.

Good point Connock. Thanks. It is only the brakes which seem to affect my D3 when the globes break with seems to give me greif every 30-50,000km or so. LED indicators on trailers causing the problems is a well known and resolverable issue, I am sure your right. If you and Rich have done this I am following you ASAP. The Incandecent globes are failure prone, create more heat than light and in my D3 keep giving me greif at the oddest of occasions. Twice now just after servicing! Might make my machanic paranoid!
Incandecent globes well be off the shelf for home use shortly. Most cars including D4s use LEDs in them for good reasons. They last much better, use less energy and are less failure prone. Hope a LED globe will make my D3 less failure prone!
Did you have a part number or supplier for the LED brake/tail lights with forward and backward facing LEDs?
This is the Park light and reverse lights.
I have replaced all the rear bulbs to LED's ( apart from the rear fogs!)
As you can see the LED reverse lights are much whiter and brighter.
Bulbs: LAND ROVER / DISCOVERY SUV / 2005-2006 (55) in WHITE
The Parkers and Brake lights are also much brighter too and I like the look of the globes too.
Bulbs: LAND ROVER / DISCOVERY SUV / 2005-2006 (55) in RED
Note: the park and brake light bulbs are the same with the offset pins.
I've also done the blinker bulbs and fitted a resistor to fix the flash rate on the dashboard.
Bulbs: LAND ROVER / DISCOVERY SUV / 2005-2006 (55) in AMBER
Also changed the interior lights to these:
Bulbs: LAND ROVER / DISCOVERY SUV / 2005-2006 (55) in WARM WHITE 12mm x 48mm 12 LED's
No dim interior anymore.

						Hi weakestlink
Got mine from brightlightautoparts.com
they have a lot of LED lighting
connock
I've also changed all the interior lights of my RRS to LED's, along with the front side lights & rear numberplate lights. The interior's no longer a dark dinghy hole, but a nice bright white.
Used these from Alltronix, great bunch to deal with

Thanks Connock
Already ordered LED globes from the UK for my D3. Noted Bright Lights is in Ferntree Gully and has some LED options for home at a very good price.
Thanks Guys! Just discovered this and would love to do the same to my D3. Is it just me or are the links all the same? Anyone know the light spec requirements for the individual lights?
On a related topic... the terrible rear cargo lights... reading this
D3 Pt 8: Snorkel,Tyres | 4WD Book & 4X4 News "For example the rear cargo light is hopelessly dull,so off came the trim, out came the bulb and now there’s two LED strip lightsfrom 4X4 Equip, drawing only 250Ma each, less that the now-disabled standardinterior light. These LEDs are flexible, so can follow the contour of the trimwith a couple of extra plastic fixings"
Would be interested to see a few photos / details of anyones similar cargo light replacement... LED strips seem like the go but I'm sure there are already some great setup's out there! Particularly involving moving the light further to the back of the ceiling as once you have a shelf / fridge etc in the back the shadow kills any light!
Thanks in advance!
Hmm, That was ages ago I posted that!
Anyway try this link for the interior lights:
LED Ultra Bright SMD Interior and Exterior Modules
I tried the 30 led ones and had to change them to the 12 led ones.
The 30's are way too bright in the front of the car!
For the brakes & parking bulbs use the link given:
380 Ultimate 92 SMD LED Car Bulb - Red and white
both in red.
For the blinkers & reverse lights:
382 Ultimate 92 LED Car Bulb - White or Amber Light
both in white.
I'm away in WA for work this week, I'll post a photo of my rear tailgate lighting. LED strips both top and bottom of the window. The bottom ones works well with the lighting into the drawers and back of car.
The top one projects light backward to light outward from the back of the car.
