Quite remarkable the difference the lights and some paint makes....
I thought that with the original purchase - if it didn't work out I'd break it, or even transplant the engine into my old D1.
If I'd stuck to just getting it on the road, I could perhaps have knocked $1000 off that spend. Things like the D4 rear lights cost me about $100 after flogging the old ones on eBay, the built in GPS was another $100, the Traxide DBS a few dollars more, the rear wheel carrier (not finished yet) another $150 in bits......
Looks great with the new lights and bumper

Cheers Baz.

Now SWMBO is not what you'd call blessed with height. It runs in her family. In fact, if she, her father, her uncle, aunts and several other relatives are together in one room, it's all you can do to stop yourself breaking into the "Hi Hooooooooo" song.
I'd left the D3 in offroad height, because I was putting the splash guards in place when I happened to look up and notice that the bonnet came up over her shoulder.
OK, I shouldn't have pointed and laughed. I know that now. The swelling should go down soon.![]()
I have seen a few older D3 pilots lowering their vehicles to make climbing in easier. At first I thought it was faulty air suspension as they all dont look like low riders when parked.First saw some octagenarians, well they looked bloody old, doing it in Albany, seen a few more since.

I've been following this thread without comment so far. What a fantastic effort.
I envy you your skills to be able to do what you've done. You must be getting a great sense of satisfaction from a job well done.

Thanks Martin.
I had a lot of help from my neighbour (and SWMBO has more than played a part), but I'm certainly glad I'm nearing the end.
I've learnt a lot along the way, like never put compressor covers where you can stand on them, and made errors along the way that have cost time and money, but overall the lessons have been worth it.
I wrote a list yesterday of the 27 things that are left to complete. I shall see how many I can complete over the weekend.![]()
Great thread, very interesting. Just 1 question, where do u get a neighbour like that??? I like the photo of him washing the chassis, you must be very influential!!!!![]()
