    Badge deselect option?

I wonder how this badging concept is going to fit with the badge deselect option?

I guess these are just phases marketing has to go thru - kind of like portholes on the wings.

LR started out with a single real one for the snorkel and marketing decides if one is good, two is better.

Here in North American, for a while, all the manufacturers, (except Buick), decided if portholes looked good on vintage Buick's, then they would look good on new product, including pickups. About the time that fad died off, Buick finally started to put the portholes back on their new production.

In one of my posts above, I show two pictures of the Ford Flex; the early models with a plain bonnet and the newer ones with FLEX spelled out - the future according to Ford styling who I think are still running LR.

I guess for 2015, I should look foreword to GM putting CHEVROLET across the front of the pickup bonnets - true progress and there is lots of space. Current production is almost debadged. A Chev bow tie in the grill, a small SILVERADO name tag on the lower portion of each front door and the bow tie emblem on the tailgate and sometimes Chevrolet in small letters and an LE or LTZ tag.

My guess for North America is that if the LR4 as we know it continues in production, they will remain with LAND ROVER on the bonnet.

ISTR that LR has already announced that the name LR4 will be dropped in favour of DISCOVERY in all markets.

    Memories are short?

I guess memories are short and the North American market is ready for the Discovery name again. As to if the Discovery name is going on the front or rear over here, that will be interesting.

Myself, I like the sound of Discovery; this currently fashionable alphabet soup vehicle naming system that Mercedes so excels at is also I think coming to an end. Re half ton pickups, Ford will stick with F-150, GM remains with Silverado and Sierra; and Chrysler, well Sergio is replacing the Dodge name with RAM and I presume that will eventually display as IVECO on the bonnet.

The two links below suggest how convoluted vehicle sourcing is getting. The first link is an indication of what can happen when a Defender gets lost in Spain and then gets confused between Italy and France.

The second link is what happens when a Dodge drives the Via Veneto.

Fiat Vans to be Ram vans: Ducato, Doblo, Iveco Daily

Come to think of it, TATA is best known for its three wheelers - no, that could not be the next small RR.

Just had a look at a MY14 in the flesh. The high beams aren't! The lense cover has the appearance of a LED cluster but behind it is a plain old incandescent globe. What the .... ?

"What the...?" indeed! What is that all about? I wonder what the optical qualities are like.

might just have to have a look at one when the next service is due - that'll sort out all the answers...

    Flash to pass?

How does the Flash to Pass feature work? It must still be there but ...

My feeling was the two inner halogen high beams were there in previous years existed more to facilitate the Flash to Pass feature than to provide additional lighting at night - which they did very well to my mind.

In countries where the HID projectors are not on all the time per Daytime Running Light mode, there is a slight warm up time that tends to preclude their use as Flashers. If always on as here in Canada as DRL, then perhaps the internal shutter mechanism could be deemed a solution but the most effective was as LR did do, the two inner high beams.

I am starting to worry as to what the new LR4 here in North America will feature - apparently no V8, only the petrol V6; no shift lever, no transfer case - it will be a boxy RR Sport at best.

As there do not yet seem to be any 2014 LR4's in stock, I am going to look at the headlights on the new RR Sports next time I am at the dealer - this is getting frightening.

Maybe the HID's are not there at all - the projectors may just have halogen bulbs behind, (which is very common with other vehicles), and hence there is no warm up time and no need for the secondary halogens. LR has seemed headlight challenged with the 4's - maybe it continues.

There was some talk of a supercharged V8 Discovery 4 in 2014.

The 3L supercharged V6 sounds really nice - in the F-type Jaguar. I wonder how much the exhaust noise will be "turned down" in the D4 version?
