The advantage may be determined by what wheel size you have especially now there is a decent legal LT rated AT available.

If you have 18" wheels the 265 60 18 will have 12.5mm less side wall than a 245 70 17.

The other advantage over the 245 70 17 is that your track width is increased albeit only by 10mm - this leads to increased stability both on & off road.

If you had to go and purchase a set of 17's wheels then the advantage is somewhat reduced because of the financial outlay.

There was a set on here real cheap recently.
They are often on Fleabay,or gumtree.

You can run BMW 17's as well,but you need to find out more as i don't know much about them.

Got mine from a breaker as they call them,we call them wreckers in the UK.
Worked out a lot cheaper than getting any here at the time,but as said i have seen some cheap sets around.

Yer,Sheerluck is correct,i forgot about the V8 models,they won't fit 17's i think.

But it has a load rating of 114,no where near many brands in 245/70/17 that are 120,or 122 which mine are.
In fact the OEM 18' passenger rated pirelli on my D4 were load rated at 112.

When I had the D3 I went to a lot of effort to get 17"s for it because at the time there were no decent legal 18's available.

If I had 18" rims now I would fit BFG's in 265 65 18 - legal, LT & will fit in spare wheel space.

265/60 R18s should be reasonably available as prado & pajero run them.

Chuck is talking 65 profile,not 60.

Don't think there are any LT in 265/60/18.

They are definitely available in 265/65/18 in BFG etc.I did read somewhere they may rub,but i could be completely wrong
The LT in 18 i was talking about were the Bridgestones,same size as OEM,255/60/18,load rating 114.

Bridgestone D697LT are 265 60 18, I don't believe there is a 255.

The 245/70/17 is used on numerous vehicles,including the GX Prado.There are many LT tyre brands in this size.

And as sheerluck has said,17's will only fit the 2.7 D4,not the 3.0l.
All D3's will fit 17's.

If you cannot fit 17's to the 3.0l then the option would be 18's?
