Can anyone advise if the oil drain modification for the D4 second turbo mentioned above is also relevant to the 2.7 single turbo?

I tow a large caravan and I am thinking of getting an EGT sender installed so that I can monitor turbo temperatures on long hill climbs - any suggestions?

On the UK disco 3 site there is info on freeing up the actuator on the turbo , apparently it gets stuck and can freed up so it works again , might be worth checking out .

Update for the high torque diesel D4 owners. Good news, no oil used, actually slightly overfilled

    Oil was dropped and measured...

This has been an interesting journey, every LR person has given me a different interpretation of what is 'normal', best one was from service yesterday who said its normal to see 100ml used per 1000km now I'm nervous cos mine is 'producing' oil.

Seems the electronic gauge is a bit iffy, maybe.

Annoyingly iffy! Mine's very inconsistant in the required wait times to get a steady reading.

By any chance does your car have a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) fitted to the exhaust?

If so, expect to never see the need for an oil top up, as cars with these fitted 'produce' oil! Well, they don't actually ... the oil gets diluted with fuel, keeping the volume high.

    G'day Celtoid,

    Happy to report no DPF.

Sorted that out on this thread: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/150379-dpf.html

    Cheers
