What if you are involved in an accident and the only way for somebody to help you out is thru the rear door????

I was talking to someone about this a while ago and they suggested something to do with being in traffic and someone can't open it and borrow stuff off you I could be wrong but i believe that's what I was told. As you say quite possibly not a great feature in some cases.

Yes, that makes sense. I'll have to try it tomorrow.

Been caught a few times with the tailgate myself. I don't remember the D3 doing that.

    Cheers,

I did read once that modern vehicles are designed to unlock doors when an impact reaches a certain G level. Then again you cant believe everything you read on the net

Even back in 1980 you could open a 7Series BMW if you knew where to hit the bonnet, so yes it possible with newer cars

I know Mercedes has certain things that they do in an after and accident shut fuel off turn hazards on unlock doors and shut windows and sunroof, LR doesn't seem to publish to much about that.

You are correct about it not opening due to traffic etc.

However, you will find that in the even of an accident, all doors will unlock, including the tailgate.

I have drive-away locking enabled, and this was one thing I checked.

Interesting I wasn't aware of that, as I live in a small country town have that drive away locking turned off. Only reason I know what Mercedes does is j researched the big GL wagon as I nearly purchased it in place of the D4 and Mercedes have a big section on all the things that they do in accidents before and after them it appears LR doesn't have such a big section on it.
