    Handbrake failed to release

Had the handbrake fail to release today.
I stoped the mojo, waited for the park brake warning light to go out and re-started.Normality resumed.
I did note on the re-start the drivers door warning was on,which I closed.
Will the park brake not release if the drivers door isnt closed properly????
I know the tailgate doesnt stop it from releasing,I once drove off thinking it sounded a tad noisy, tailgate was up,dash also pointed it out

As far as i know if a doors is open and you try to drive away releasing the park brake it won't release but if a door is open you can manually release it, because i got caught out a while ago trying to move the car when washing it just had to move it 5 metres and didn't shut the door properly and it wouldn't release.

As with the tail gate i think its an exception because i know the air suspension won't move with the doors open, but will move if the tail gates open, so could possibly be the same for the park brake releasing.

I could be wrong but so far thats my experience around that issue.

Too much safety! I know if the car is not in Park, the tail gate will not open!! Was cursing the other day trying to get the tail gate open. Even in Neutral with park brake on the tail gate wouldn't open.

That isnt a very good safety feature.
What if you are involved in an accident and the only way for somebody to help you out is thru the rear door????

Curiosity got the better of me, so I tried it out for myself this afternoon.

I can release the handbrake with any door open. Mine's an MY13.

    Cheers,
    Jon

I was curious too. So I fired it up put it into reverse, unlocked and then went around and opened the tailgate. Then with driver's door and tailgate open released the park brake. There was a message telling me it, the tailgate and door, were open and the park brake was released and to "lift to apply".
    Mine is a D3 MY09.

I always used neutral and park brake to things out of the boot of my D3. That's why I was cursing thinking my tail gate was broken on the MY14 D4.

That's right you can manually release it but as far as I know it won't auto release on the drive away releasing with a door open if that makes sense.
