Looks pretty straight forward, 7 clips holding it up. Start at one end and slowly lever it down. If you have one of those plastic crowbar type trim removal tools slip that behind and lever it down.

    Pat,
Give me a call and I will give you a hand. You can look at mine and see how the trim comes off as I have a barrier fitted.
    Cheers, Graeme

I've just been informed that holes for the top mount for this barrier need to be DRILLED into the car, even though there are 4 existing holes at various spacing's already located in the cross member running under the light cover trim ....I was shocked and surprised, I thought this was a fully no-drill option.

Could someone confirm? Pix if poss.

    Thank heaps.

    Hi Jimlr,

I recently installed mine and it is not so much 'drilling' but enlarging a pre-existing hole.

Hard to send pics of holes as they are all covered by the roof light trim.

I am no major mechanic/handyman and managed it ok. I was most concerned about breaking the plastic trim cover as I took it off.

    Hope that clarifies a little.

Thanks Pat, that helps and makes some more sense.

From looking at the brackets, they look to use the outer pair of holes in that crossmember, and its those that need enlarging I assume. The other solution would be to use a smaller bolt??...but would probably lead to allsorts of litigation/insurance issues in today's day and age...hmmm....

I thought about the smaller bolt option as well and came to the same conclusion. The barrier is there for safety -why compromise it in any way.

And it wasn't hard to enlarge the holes.

This is what I'm looking at, TRAV-ALL, only downside is, you can't attach things to it, which doesn't affect us anyway, as we won't be attaching things to it.

We like it because it's easy to fit and remove, from the outside, which means if the rear door latch fails, we can still access the back of the car.

I like it for all the reasons you have mentioned. Having started this thread about the auto safe half-height barrier, I actually went down there and had my car measured up with my drawers system installed, but they never got back to me with an install date. Now that I have seen this, I'm glad they didn't.

Got the AutoSafe half height cargo barrier fitted recently.

As all above have said, rear roof trim panel comes off easily, simple to enlarge the 2 holes by the required 2mm each - they are existing holes that are 400mm apart, that already go through the roof headlining itself. Use a drill stop!

Here are some pics to add to the mix, showing the detail of the rear upper fixings (looking backwards from inside the car), and one showing the lower fixings. See where the trim panel flexes a little to allow the bracket through - it wouldn't if you decided not to push in those 3 clips along that edge - the trim would still hold fine - but i decided to push all the clips home.

Couldn't be happier with the product. Hope it helps someone.
