    TDV6 Coolant

    Gday All,

Will be doing some hose changes and other jobs on the car soon and will no doubt need some coolant to top up the system.

I was just wondering what coolant people are using, and if you are able to mix the coolant with after market stuff.

    Ean,

good question, I'm going to change the water outlet connector on mine before I do the CSR in July so I have been giving this some thought too.

On the TD5 I use Cat Extended life coolant. is anyone using this in their V6?
it would be good to only keep one coolant in the shed.

    Great question Ean.
Do these engines run the same OAT coolant as the D2???? If so the premix Longlife CAT OAT is the go,it exceeds Landy specs for the D2.Its the cheapest you will buy,in 20L drums from your local CAT supplier.Would like to know if its D4 suitable too.

That was the main point of my question, I know the coolant on the D2 could be mixed with an aftermarket OAT coolant.

Not getting many replies here so might have to go to the technical sites for some info. I am sure there is a suitable or better coolant out there.

I have been told that AC Delco (genuine Holden) red coolant is compatible.

I use the standard NULON or CAT Red OAT coolant in mine. Usually have a 20 litre container in the shed, as we also use it in SWMBO's Camry and the young bloke's D2.

Factory specs call for an OAT coolant
Havoline Extended Life Coolant (XLC) or any ethylene glycol based anti-
freeze containing no methanol with only Organic Acid Technology (OAT)
    corrosion inhibitors

Just had a quick look on the caltex website, I would assume that the delo extended life coolant is the same as the LR spec Havoline

After many conversations with L/R mechanics around Perth , they use Tectaloy Orange Extended factory coolant . It comes in a 5ltr concentrate and it costs about $94 from Coventry's / Cov's. Same as the L/R original mix 50/50 . Don't forget to flush first .

So the system needs flushing , so its not a compatible coolant to mix.
