I see this is available on special at the moment. Can the collective wisdom of AULRO confirm that it is suitable for a nonDPF 3.0L SDV6?
Penrite Full Synthetic Engine Oil - 5W-30, 6 Litre - Supercheap Auto
Camel
This is a bit of a furphy, along the lines of you need a minimum 1500ppm of ZDDP or your cam will fail with older engines.
Different additives are used that don't contaminate the DPF, ie. the metallic ash additives are lowered considerably.
The lowering of metallic ash has been happening for the last twenty years, and yet diesel engine oils have, for the most part, become more robust, with less engine wear being exhibited with better detergency and dispersency than ever before.
Additives such as tin napthanate and boron based additives are being used for anti-wear and EP protection that are actually better but much more expensive than old school stuff like ZDDP.
Of course metallurgy and surface treatments are changing to help too.
Been using Total Quartz 9000 Future NFC A5W-30 in both in TDV6 2.7 and Puma 2.2 (non DPF )
Costs less than $40 for 5 litre

FORD Engine Oil - Oil for FORD |Total Lubricants
Hi ,
My indi recommends 5W-40 for Australian conditions.
Does the attached Penrite 5W-40 meet the WSS-M2C913-B OR C spec published by JLR for the LR4 TDV6 2.7L non DPF?
Cannot see the WSS-M2C913-B or C oil specification mentioned anywhere on the label.
Thanks
Just had my 20K service done by the independent I use and he recommends the Penrite Enviro C4. I also used that as the oil for the in between service at 10K. It's also the choice for other indies I've spoken to so good enough for me.
Met a bloke today who has his done by the book...... by the stealer! Reckons that's the way to go for him but I did tell him there was no way I'd let any of all the cars I've had over the years to have the oil unchanged for that amount of kays. He says he's happy so.....

Hi Alan,
I'm curious. What is it you hope to achieve by servicing every 10K KM? I'm being honest not facetious with the question. My vehicle, by the previous owner, was serviced by the dealer intervals for its first 200K KM. I'm now running arduous servicing intervals as I tow and go off-road, so I'm changing it around 10-12K KM. I also use the enviro c4.
What I'm getting at is you choose to spend money servicing it to make it last I presume, but I'm curious of your opinion of value? Is this based on a certain number of KM you expect to get out of the engine? What is your expectation, honestly? What KM would you consider you've done ok and your interval was worthwhile? I ask this as so many people criticise the factory intervals but have no clear expectation of what they hope to achieve, other than a perception that the factory is wrong? So is 200,000km good? 300,000km?, 500,000km?
Cheers,
Jeff

I'm just hoping that having reasonably fresh oil in the engine will at least stop the relatively rare (thankfully) main bearings seizing etc. I've always done the same sort of thing ever since having my first car, a Ford Consul.
Oil is cheap insurance as far as I'm concerned. Over servicing it may be but as I do tow a van, albeit a very light one compared to some of the behemoths being towed around, I still feel it's worthwhile.
