Thread: Noise from LH

Doubt if it's tyres - but very easy to check.
Swap the front left tyre out with another and see if the noise moves / changes.

Failing that - could be any one of a number of causes. I recently had a noise and some "grabbing" coming from the front end, which I originally suspected as either a wheel bearing or a CV joint. It was the centre diff lock engaging when it shouldn't have been, and the effects of diff "wind-up" were what I had been hearing. Managed to correct the problem using GAP IID Tool.

A metallic hiss sound from the front passenger side on a D3 (diesel?) can be a turbo failing.
Should be easily picked up by a LR specialist.

Daz , not a whistle type sound , sound like metal to metal .

Speed change it? Or revs change it?

How did you manage to fix it with the IID tool? I'm having similar issues.

There are two "calibration" sequences / programs relevant to the Transfer Case in the IID Tool programming. Run both of these.

You should only need to run one of the programs to fix your problem (the other calibrates the hi/low range selection) - but I found that the problem with the centre diff lock was cleared but then returned if I ran only the calibration relevant to that function. When I ran both calibration sequences the following day, the problem was cleared and has not since returned.

Lower control arms? My 08 D3 started with a quiet rattling sound on the front LHS that gradually got worse. But that was at 70k, not 143k.

I had what sounds like tyres and that's what dealer indicated, it's ended up being front diff. It seems to sound like it's in the left hand side and can be confused with tyres.
