    Help, need a replacement D4

From a structural point of view, with the benefit of close inspection both A-pillars are deformed inward due to the catenary effect across the roof line, but the right side one is significantly deformed such that you can put your hand through between the door and pillar. The pillar deformation is such that it likely extend down below the window line and into the bodywork and firewall.
The driver side B-pillar is also deformed inward from the roof deformation.
The driver side C-pillar is buckled near the top from the direct impact of the carport joist such that the rear door is difficult to open.
There is further creasing damage to the passenger side rear pillar consequent on further impact from a different roof joist that flicked down having taken a direct hit from the tree.

The roof panel is perforated at around where the tree branch impacted, and the head rest was impacted by the roof thereby preventing even further deformation of the roof and pillar buckling.

A portion of the weight of the carport and tree was left resting on the car after the impact giving the car quite a lean, which was very evident in the suspension clearance. It is thus very possible that the suspension bottomed out at the peak of the impact so there may well be further damage to the chassis / suspension components as a result, but this would be difficult to tell based on a cursory inspection and may only show up as a fatigue or reliability issue way down the track.

While a great car, the load it sustained was definitely not a design load that would have been considered, other than to minimise damage to the occupants in the case of a rollover, so in my view all bets are off from a structural longevity perspective.

    Otherwise it is all good!!!!

I am still in mourning, and get reminded every evening when I return home as the car is still parked in the drive looking very forlorn with its sloping down roof line.

    NON REPAIRABLE

Sorry to see your misfortune, it used to be the case in Vic that you could repair write offs and they still have 2 classes of write off. Repairable and none repairable. Sorry to say but yours will definitely fall into the non repairable class due to the structural damage .
If it was mine and had been a good car with no issues and well serviced I would buy it back from the auctions, take it home and dismantle it, sell all panels, lights and bars etc. sell the interior ( could take some time ) and keep all the running gear, brakes, suspension and everything else that wears out with use.
Buy another good well serviced one and with the experience gained from dismantling one completely you have parts and know how to get you through the next 10 years of motoring without buying anything other than oil and filters.
Easy for me to say though because I was a panel beater for 15 years, not so easy for some.
Good luck with finding a replacement

Saw a very good condition white 2013 D4 in Yackandandah Vic yesterday. Don’t have any details, but it was parked in a driveway behind the local IGA. Call them & get someone to pop around a get you a phone number. Very friendly place. Just had 3 great days of their annual folk festival.

Many thanks for your support, kind offers of assistance and ideas.
The vehicle assessor has confirmed my beloved Disco to be a statutory write-off so suspect it will be up for auction at Pickles in Melbourne soon.
Other than the ‘tree’ incident the D4 has been very solid and reliable and had been an awesome drive.
Still waiting to hear re insurance settlement so can’t move forward right at the moment but will follow up on options of interest as things unfold.
    Cheers
    Gary

I am with NRMA. I have all of my policies with them and get the 25% discount. It costs me $2K but the claim was 10K.

Sorry to hear that, as I was about to suggest finding another body for it, if you were happy with the mechanicals, engine, running gear, etc.
