What happened to my D4 today? I pulled my car apart and now can’t get it back together. In changing out the discs and pads I found that the rubber insert in the caliper slider pins had aged, expanded and jammed. No slidy slidy. Hammered them out and the rubber is cactus. New sliders ordered (as of course you can’t just buy the rubber bit), ex-east.

My valve body still hasn't come home, waiting on parts from WA aparently.. Give them the hurry up DJ!

While I'm waiting I thought I may as well take the bushes off the shelf and put them in the LCA. And replace the sway bar links. The ball joints are shot.

    Nothing like a bush bbq

I keep meaning to buy the tool. But the bbq once every 50k ain't that bad

So burn it out, then cut out the outer ring, push new one in?

I've it before on my old RRC, then i found it was just easier to take the new bushes over to my dads work and use his press and fit in the carpark.

Drilled it first. Got most of it out. Then burnt out. Used a die grinder to make a notch then just pushed out by hand. Simple press back in with a special plate I made.

You can't press these bushes out, there is nothing to press off or react off

Machine a spacer to touch the other lip and off you go!

Fire is everywhere and cheap too. By the time you pay a machine shop you could just but the decent tool.

I realise that 664 klms in a day is child's stuff and quite pathetic compared to the big daily miles, sorry klms, that youse mainlanders regularly do, but, here in Tassy its a slightly big deal due to the "mountainous" terrain......

Yesterday I took my eldest son with 4 mates with their 22kg backpacks loaded in my tandem 9 X 5 trailer from Hobart to Cradle Mt so they could do the 5 day Overland Track walk finishing at Lake St. Clair.

My trailer is robust and heavy, and I reckon the D4 was towing/carrying around 1.5 tonnes incl people.

Cruised easily at 110kph on the Midland & Bass Hwys then took the short cut to Sheffield then Claude Rd past Cethana Dam etc which is all undulating steep hills, and many slow tight corners etc so avge speed well down and lots of accelerating out of the tight corners etc.

Did it in almost exactly 4.5 hrs which included two p..s & food stops (which totalled approx 30 mins.)

Without exception all my son's mates commented what an unexpectedly to them nice car it was.
Two of them each had a new Triton 4x4 dual cab and new Hilux 4x4 dual cab the other two had Subaru's.

Returned via the Lake Hwy for a change ,towing the empty trailer, but lots of steep climbs which affected fuel economy.

Fuel cons was 10.4 lphk measured, not by LR computer, so very happy with that.

Next Sunday have to take trailer to Sthn end of Lake St. Clair to collect them, another approx 450 klms return.

Have decided I can put up with potential snapped crankshaft, split manifold, gearchange selector problems, broken tailgate cable issues ......as such a delightful and enjoyable car to drive.

Blud oaf they are a nice car!
