That's only if you drop the valve body out. Not needed for just a fluid change.

When you lot do the oil changes, how many litres do you extract? I seem to get just a shy of 5L if that. I make sure the oil level is at -2 bars <-> maximum most times.
I drain mine through the bottom sorry mate..I used to measure it. Was always about right. 5.6L . I only put 5.7 L in mine at service.

I did a hand brake adjustment while I was there and flushed the brakes. Hoping the second side will be quicker
All done, the whole rear set of bushes except the sway bar rubbers, I must have forgotten to order them.

    Front uppers done.

The brake shudder I had was the rear control Arm bushes, the front uppers improved the steering. None of them looked really bad. Only 1 on the front was really bad.

    Front uppers = easy!
You can use a Bunnings supplied Stanley ball joint tool on them aswell

Got sick of the windscreen wipers chattering so I "adjusted" each arm with a pair of 12" crescent spanners. Now they're quiet like they should be.

I ran the wipers until they were vertical and pulled the fuse. It was quite obvious that neither arm was holding the blade perpendicular to the screen and it looks like both arms had been "adjusted" in the past. Didn't take much of a tweak, but now they're both silent. Only took 4 years to get around to doing something about it.

I noticed the drivers side wiper is too long and interferes with the passenger side arm when parked, so I'll have to buy a shorter blade next time. I found some info that suggests on the D3 the drivers side blade is a 21" while the passengers is a 22". When I put new blades on last time I did a quick search which indicated both 22", so that explains the drivers side one being too long. It's the little things.

I did the same, until that bugged me because they were never perfect and drivers side wore blades out prematurely. Lashed out and bought a new arm and a set of braumach blades front and rear. Absolutely silent and perfectly clear windows.

If drivers side is too long, swap it to passenger side.

You don’t burn soot I take it... I’ll try drain from the plug next time and measure.. been told the service tube had a lower point in the sump.

Beats me where I’m burning oil...

They are both the same length. The stuff I read said by 22" blades, so I bought a pair of 550mm when what I really needed was a 530mm for the drivers side.

I have a pair of new arms in my lr-direct shopping cart, but I don't really need anything else at the moment, so I'll wait and see how these go. The drivers side needed the most minor of tweak, but the passenger side was out considerably and you could see the pattern as it jumped across the windscreen. I think I can see marks on the arms where they've been attacked before.

I have read that the earlier D3s suffered from a few wiper related issues and there seem to be a few revisions of the arms over the first couple of years. Mine is built in late 2007, so it should be past that, but then it should be past a lot of issues that still keep cropping up.

You can burn quite a bit of oil over 10,000km without it being at all noticeable.

I just checked my last service and I got 4.8L out (by weight). According to records I put just under 6L in prior to that, but things were a bit mental over that period so I can't vouch for the absolute accuracy of those numbers. I usually weigh it in and out, but I don't seem to have a weight for what went in last service.

I use those oil extractors. (Might actually check if the extractor measurement is good.)

I know I pour the entire 6L in each service.
