What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Refitted the 17inch rims with some new LT245/70R17 Falken Wildpeak AT tyres. Picked them up for $225 each including fitting, balancing, and old tyre disposal.

They are a heavy tyre at 6kg more than the Cooper Discoverer AT3. Despite this the steering is nice and light - no doubt aided by the much higher running pressures.

First impressions are good - compared to the low profile 19 inch street tyres I had been running for the last 2 years they do move around more but the ride quality has improved.

They actually look like the tyre size the D3 should have always had, and the spare just fits.

I meant just cleaning out and adjusting the drum and shoes. That would be my first port of call.

Cleaning is the key, air or water, the dust buildup is prodigious and affects the working tolerances.

Compressed air is good, but make sure you wear a suitable mask as the dust billows up everywhere. Come to think of it, I used far too much pressure as I was too lazy to dial it down. You don't need much pressure to blow out the dry dust.
I then soaked everything in Brakeclean and, once dry, carefully sprayed silicone onto the moving bits of the mechanism, making sure not to overspray onto the shoe lining.
Adjust the shoes up tight and then back off eight clicks.
Once you've driven around a few days to settle the shoes, you probably should re-adjust them if you've nothing better to do.

Found out today that the inside diameter of the D4 washer windscreen jet is 0.62mm.

(It’s been spraying weirdly so I used 0.6mm MIG wire to clean it out)
