    Not much better I'm afraid at the moment. List of accomplishments so far are:
    • Removed the third row of seats;
    • False floor made out of 12mm marine ply covered in stretch carpet;
    • Fridge slide on the left bolted down to false floor;
    • Old single 'Kings' drawer on the right from son's 80 series cruiser;
    • Cargo barrier to keep everything in the back away from soft mushy human heads in the front.

    And lots of plans to make it better. Need to find someway of carrying jerry cans securely and maybe a cage around the Waeco when it's in so we can easily access it when loaded up.
    Just arrived: 2012 D4 3.0 HSE, the journey begins again ;-).

    Duly noted thanks. Next time I'll give the vac pump a go instead.

    Actually wish the 2.7 was set up like this. Vacuum extraction is so much easier. With the 2.7 I use an extractor to remove most of the oil first via the dip stick, then open the drain plug to drop the last bit of oil. Less messy all up.

    Invest in a Stahlbus.

    Easier and quicker all round.

    ….and less wasteful as you don’t have the throw out the drain plug every oil change. What happened to your D3/D4 today?

    Why - after now 201,000km and nearly 15 years of age, my 2.7 still has it original sump plug and o ring - the trick is to not over torque.

    I must admit I never had to change the drain plug either, but the Stahlbus is brilliant. No pan required, just drop the tube into an empty bottle.

    Speaking of doing our own oil changes - a related question -

    Does used fully synthetic engine oil do as good a job at preventing weed re-growth out in the laneway behind the house as the old mineral based oil used to do ????

    Asking for a friend.

    Nice piece of kit, but still doesn't get all the oil out as the sump plug sits higher than the suction line.
