So as a result of this thread, I have dismantled, repainted and refurbished the tow hitch. New lock assembly, new pin and new tow ball. It is good to do things yourself, losing the 6mm ball bearing in my garage when it pinged out during reassembly wasn't the most fun, it remains on the MIA list, new one installed.
Sorry to laugh but yesterday wife type and I spent 3 hours looking for a ball bearing that fell out of a Patrol gear box I'm fixing....about 2.5mm across😐 and just as a comparo...we bought all the OEM Jap bearings for 300 bucks whereas eg Patrolapart wanted over 600 for the kit. Thats some mark up...plus freight!!
Well, over the last couple of weeks, due to work loads on both sides (as in both myself and the mechanics 🧰) I’ve finally had the car serviced and front bushes replaced, as well as a main radiator hose and the water housing unit being replaced. Also had the rear brakes and rotors done, and he’s done a check over of a few other things for me too.
All up it’s cost me almost 2.5 grand, and the trans oil still has to be changed in two or three weeks 😳 but need to tow the van again soon 😁.
These cars are not probably considered to be cheap to own,,, but holy crap, it’s worth every cent.
I could have done this cheaper, ie, done probably the whole job myself, but, I’m not set up for it with most of my tools in boxes 400 odd kilometres away, and I have full faith in Ivan and Graham who did the work for me. He too is an LR tragic, as are most of his team. Always great service.
As you can see in the pic, the housing is not far off splitting, so glad to get it done, about 115,000 on the clock. I could have replaced it with an aluminium unit which is now available, but decided to stick with original.
Love how this unit drives, so comfy and quiet, and looking forward to a run down to Melbourne soon.
Never liked the standard issue number plate. Apart from blue on white, the front one was bent from the time I'd bought it, despite assurance from the stealer he'd get it professionally straightened.
Couldn't quite see it with a full personalised name plate, leaving me straitened [see what I did there [bighmmm]], I went for the retro series.
A choice of starting with an X or a U. Not a fan of UDL's, so this was the result ...

Complements the barwork, snorkel and rims nicely.
Got off my arse and finished a couple of small jobs off.
Wired in the reversing camera,
Connected the Rear ‘dash’ camera up to the front,
Reassembled the rear trim.
Refitted the 3rd (Aux) battery (HV50) and made up the required retaining bracket to seat it correctly.
With all that done and working:

I like the no mess Stahlbus drain valve idea. The stahlbus(R) oil drain valve
