The Puma Defender has a large ECU mounted high up at the rear of the engine bay,with the plugs coming in from the side,which is better.
The wiring on the D3 is generally terrible. I just know it will be the source of lots of frustration in the future. In the UK these plugs do seem to corrode a lot - I should have checked before now.Quote:

The housing cover does not fit well either - so for now I used a redundant plug to wedge against the cover and back of the battery tray to hold it firmly in place (which you see in the last photo I posted). Will have to come up with a better solution.
Its no wonder that D3s have been so susceptible to corrosion of those connectors and of water getting to the pcb itself. Rather than make an extension lead I'd be fitting extensions into the existing wires to invert the ecu.
The shells themselves are available as LR spare parts as well as from connector suppliers but rather than pay the exorbitant price of LR repair tails/terminals I can provide a source for the terminals but I have no information regarding the availability of the sockets. The same series of plugs is used for the RDCU, which is where I first encountered them.

Would be good to confirm terminal details as whilst I was able to clean up for now I am sure I will need to replace.
The plugs are TE Junior Power Timer series - TE drawing numbers 1355071 and 1355072 if searching on google.
For my retro-fitted RDCU I bought 30 of the 25-40A part number 927766-3 (tin) from Farnells and all shells except 1 from Mouser (IIRC) as LR was much cheaper than Mouser for that one whereas for all others Mouser was much cheaper than LR. I found it impossible to remove terminals from the shells as I couldn't fabricate a suitable tool so after having fitted 1 terminal to the wrong cavity which fortunately was unused, I was glad to have obtained spares.
Thanks Graeme - I will explore options to relocate the ECU. Flipping upside down may be a do-able option. For now I am happy to know where the problem spot is.
Anyone with a D3 I strongly recommend popping the ECU cover and pulling the plugs to check for corrosion. If not caught early it can destroy the ECU.

Not sure who our guide was. However he did say that on the same day last year the cruises carried 692 passengers. This year they carried 62 - with 31 being on our sunset cruise. Usual staff numbers at Cooinda are 140 total with 20 guides. This year the numbers are 11 & 2. Sobering.Quote:
