Well managed to trace down a long running suspension / terrain response system fault today on the D3 which I suspected was either a bad splice or a bad earth with the wiring somewhere. Well not quite right - this is what I found....

Where is that connector located?
2024 RRS on the road
2011 D4 3.0 in the drive way
1999 D2 V8, in heaven
1984 RRC, in hell
That is the power supply to the transfer box ECU located just behind the battery.

Well found☺
Was a bit of a chance find. I wasn’t going to touch the ECU until I saw the dirty finger prints and oil over the connectors. Someone had been here before which got me suspicious.
What ever they had done, they had left a bunch of cables and connectors with broken locating clamps all free to fly around just in front of the ECU housing. Even the housing cover had not been refitted properly.
Looked like a battery also had problems in the past as there was a lot of copper sulfate in the area. Was a real mess.

That is the ECU that often gets wet when the engine is washed, and causes all sorts of issues.
I'm aware of that including that the ecu itself isn't sealed but if upside down then perhaps someone re-mounted it incorrectly which should be rectified.
