I think I know what Tombie's problem was - he should have done up the Cheesium bolts with a Chinesium spanner or socket - the two are mutually compatible.
Haha. Exactly. The spanner will snap before the bolt can twist. Brings new meaning to the idea of “elastic” bolts

Well - my Disco has gone into the panel beaters this morning for two weeks (they tell me).
As well as repairing the damage caused when a vehicle reversed into the side of mine a few weeks ago, they are going to pull the dent out of the front of the roof where some arsehole climbed on it a few years ago and nicked my first LED lightbar. So hopefully, it will be like a new one when I get it back.

I'm now driving a Corolla Hybrid - at least they have supplied a hire car while mine is off the road. Bit of a weird sensation taking off silently with no engine running - especially when I stopped into the Post Office on the way home from collecting it. Silent in bitumen carparks where there are plenty of pedestrians / kids / drunk "locals" wandering about. Needs a bullbar.

Apologies for the late reply - I have been barra fishing in the NT!

I misread the message. It says "Brake pads worn"! I have nursed it for the past 3000 km, using the trailer brake controller to brake wherever possible. Back home now and the Disco is into the Dealer tomorrow. They suspect that it may just be a dud sensor. The rotors look fine from what I can see.

A brutal fishing trip to the NT! Broke a spring on the boat trailer about 100 km after leaving home. 4 hrs on the side of the road in 40 C heat to change it. Shredded 3 x tyres on the boat trailer traversing the Tableland Hwy. Drove the last 1,400 km home with NO spare tyres for the trailer.

    But boated 125 barra in 6 x days - 55 to 86 cm!

And now the upper tailgate on the Disco is jammed!

Yep they fight well but while they are great fresh when caught from salt systems so are estuary species like flathead and snapper (and of course as you go deeper you have such greats as coral trout). Anything fresh is good if well handled. GT tastes like chicken and can be used for sashimi. Tailor if bled immediately and kept cold and eaten the same day is very satisfying. Fresh whiting is great. Tiger Squid...caught a 1kg version recently..cared for it in dispatching it and prepared it carefully. Tasted fantastic and the texture was excellent. Lot.of calamari there. There is.so much in the care of a fish as well as in the cooking. Cheers

Maybe you have only experienced farm bred or fresh water members of the species. A wild barra out of saltwater takes a lot of beating on the fish taste test scale.

Coral Trout are my #1 preferred eating fish, but barra are hard to beat as a sport fish!

    1) Anyone can catch one - but to consistently catch them in numbers requires a degree of knowledge, skill and experience.
    2) They aggressively take lures (we are dedicated lure chuckers - no bait fishing or trolling in my boat!).
    3) If you hook one the invariably come out of the water - so you know whats on the end of your line.
    4) They have a grest ability to throw your lure back at you!
    5) If you manage to boat one, they are pretty good to eat (we only chase salt water barra!)

Had fresh caught Saltwater Barra - as I said the catching is enjoyable. Still cant say I rate it. It is like wine though - each has their own taste.
