Mine ended up same. After I had a quick chat to Tim from Traxide, I didn't bother to test it, just recycled the Optima and replaced it with an SSB HVT70D (85Ah) from Goodchilds. It went straight in on the Traxide tray.

I did need a longer +ve lead made (AutoSpark Osborne Park).
Also needed a flatter clamp, purchased a standard one at Repco.

I'm in Wembley. You're welcome to message me and drop by for a look see.

(And I think there's a few threads on this very topic, if you want to see what others have done? Pretty much the same.)

I got about that out of a Yellow, less out of a Red. I won't be buying replacements from Optima.

Tim, are they similar in physical size to the old D34?

Edit: I note that they are a heck of a lot cheaper.

Mine is jammed in the tiny box (holds brake controller ?) behind the air filter box hence it's only 55ah. Have to get a same size replacement or everything will have to be rejigged to suit something bigger.
    Thanks to all for responses.

Exact same physical size, and yes, around $150 cheaper but it is a 60Ah battery compared to the Optima D34s 55Ah.

They are proving to be very reliable as well.

Same for me - I like the 'everything is stock' look under the bonnet - so the battery is hidden away.

Very maybe being in the box means a slightly cooler experience for the battery, though i doubt it would be by much if anything at all.

Thanks, Tim. I got one of Carl's battery boxes some years ago. It was designed to fit two Optis side by side. Finding a suitable replacement has been tedious. I don't want to go back to having the 2nd batt next to the turbo.

What happened to your D3/D4 today?

My mistake was assuming it was obvious where all the check ball bearings went. It turns out there are many more locations than balls. Take photos!!!!

In the end for me I had to look for wear marks on the separator plate to work out where balls had been located based on minuscule wear on the plate. Very unpleasant. Avoid.
