Just ordered a similar one from ebay - it says it's in Melbourne. We'll see if it's actually China lol What happened to your D3/D4 today? Literally right before it broke I was thinking to myself "How great is it that my compressor hasn't played up since I serviced it two years ago." 30 seconds later...

    Park Brake Linings.

Some months ago noticed one of the rear discs had lost its plastic bung[melted]
Never noticed any smell of overheating but a slight tinkling of a light spring rubbing?
Eventually got around to taking the disc off and found this D4 pb.jpgD4 pb1.jpg
Fitted a Borg & Beck kit BBS6416....so all good.
The kit did not contain the very light spring that one of the original shoes had attached to corner near the lining.
One of these springs was badly stretched so presumably was making the tinkling noise.Apart from that no screeching noise and park brake worked ok!
Hardly any debris from the missing lining material.
One query with the Gap tool, could not find where to enter service mode.....only something about un-jam epb.
Took about a dozen+ goes to get into EPB bedding in mode!

    Just a question to all,
why not just replace the whole compressor with a new unit?
My D4 has been absolutely faultless, touch wood, I am thinking I will keep it a few more years so due to where I go it must remain faultless so wouldn't
just replacing the whole compressor that is now 10 years old and 130,000km be a safer option?
Personally I don't care if it costs a few extra $$ because those spent $$ are considerably less than a tow from the middle of nowhere and worth it with less chance of a brake down

On one hand you are right. Sadly I think this argument could apply to the whole of the car though - at some point you need to draw a line and I'm sure everyone else here has their own line in the sand.

My last ebay compressor lasted 2 years before it cooked. Meanwhile rebuilding the original for a third of the price has worked for the other 16 years of the cars life. I could buy a genuine hitachi but that's ten times the cost of a rebuild and five times the cost of a ebay Chinese compressor. If a $40 part gets me another few years I'll have money in the bank for the next thing that breaks. I'm looking at you gearbox... What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Where to stop is the conundrum, I will probably keep mine for another 4 years so am thinking , compressor, airbags and shockers, alternator and rotary gear dial plus possibly inlet manifolds as preventative maintenance before the next substantial outback travel

Watch out I think Friday the 13th extends for at least the weekend bit it's power seems to diminish with time. Yesterday the girl across the road backed into my car, luckily the corner of her bumper hit my front wheel.

Took my nephew away on the weekend for camping and to drive a few tracks in Rubicon forest and Toolangi, let him drive most of the time as he is on his learners.
Found some great fire break tracks in Toolangi off Black Range Road with some interesting descents down towards Buxton.

I put together a short video of the fire break track.

Updated from the old format remote to the new. Lighter and thinner (thickness). Very cool. Only a little filing to the board to fit.

    This weeks update

HEL brake lines. It’s been 12 years so time to refresh the brake system.
