    Car back from the mechanics today - power steering pump, high pressure hose and drive belt need replacing. Not sure if I just want to take the car out the back and shoot it...

    Understand, if it makes you feel a bit better, work colleague purchased an 8 year old Prado - full service history, very clean.

    He’s sunk nearly $20k into R&M (not mods) in the last 18 months.

    Over the last 2 weeks have been doing a few road trips with and without the kids.
    Dropped them off with my parents and the minister for war and I got a week to ourselves.

    The worst part is he still has to drive a Prado at the end of it What happened to your D3/D4 today?... I've been thinking about stepping sideways into a Defender. Just as needy but I think I'll be happier to do the work. Used car market is pretty dead though so I'd doubt I'll get much for my Disco

    Yeah i couldn't handle being stuck with a playdoh, a friend bought one just before i bought my old D1 and it felt pokier than the D1 did.

    I’ve dropped $6500 in the last six weeks on mine. Between faulty EGRs leaking into the coolant, drive shafts on the front and new tyres all round, I hear you all. And there’s still a couple of grand paintwork that needs doing, but that will wait, and wait …..

    Maintenance, to a certain point, is usually cheaper than a new vehicle. A new “equivalent” vehicle will cost ~$120k…and will lose at least 10% in the first year.
    Balancing “new car”, old car, value loss and maintenance costs is all a very personal thing. This makes me feel much better whenever I cough up on maintenance….
