Well, I now know it's the tensioner :

Did a job on the tensioner arm/housing :

Did a job on the front of the bracket also! :

    Standard 6203 : 40mm x 17mm x 12mm bearing remains

The spring in the tensioner certainly doesn't feel weakened and I'd sure as **** not like to be around if it went off. Pivot seems ok. I'll grab a bearing tomorrow and put it back together.
I suppose I'm lucky I made it home because it was probably squealing like a pig for 200km before I hit Albany, and it was certainly "compromised" on the 420km drive home from there.
    Belt seems ok.

The belt is badly glazed and I would think that it will be noisey. The tensioner has been seriously compromised. I wouldn't trust it any further than I could throw it, and that's not far at my age.
For the sake of a couple of hundred dollars you are going to risk having a failure and leaving yourself stuck somewhere. A tow home will cost far more than the cost of a proper repair.

Fair call. I've just ordered both tensioner and idler, plus a new belt. I will put this back together with a new bearing though as it's my only transport. Just have to run it until the new stuff arrives.

I'd just go a whole new tensioner also - comes with the idler on it already and they are not that expensive. Tensioners are known to fail from time to time so worth the effort to replace.

I meant I've ordered a complete tensioner (spring arm and pulley) and a complete idler (fixed arm and pulley). If I'm going to do one I may as well do both.

Can replace the idler pulley and use a patrol one or just replace the bearing.

The pulley is fine. I'll put a new bearing in it tomorrow and that'll do me until the new bits arrive and I've time to put it all in. To be honest I'm not really worried. The tensioner moves ok, has plenty of spring and the ground off bits aren't structural.

    Should've kept a Volvo.

Don't you start. I had sellers regret the second I came home and saw it gone. I might have even shed a tear.

Having said that, the fact I probably got 600km on the Antichrist with the tensioner rotating on nothing but metal on metal and yet it still got me home does help confidence in the vehicle.

Started to run the wiring for the roof solar panel. Redarc 120w, roof rack mounted, wires along the inside of the backbone and into the car via the rubber grommet in the upper tailgate. From there along the drivers side floor to the driver footwell. It’ll be connected to the DCDC/solar controller at the aux battery.

From there however…the hole where the clutch would go is completely full of wires and I need to run twin 10ga. How on earth do you possibly get twin 10ga wire to go through the hole at the accelerator?

yes, I’m aware that I still need to seal up the hole in the grommet.
