Ride level control module C1A13-64 Pressure does not decrease when venting gallery

    Hello Fellow Discovery owners,
Got some Christmas - New Year down time as I am in Sydney - not going anywhere

    2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE - I have owned since new

(New motor 10 years ago - spun crank bearings, been self servicing since, except for things like auto service etc)

"Ride level control module C1A13-64 Pressure does not decrease when venting gallery"

Been getting this error on an off for last couple of months - clears with IID Tool

Now my the Discovery 3 is going into extended mode if I try to lower to access mode, but only the rear suspension raises to extended height.

Done some internet research and can see that this is probably one or two things -
    1. electrical connections - the ones behind left hand front guard
    2. desiccant canister is blocked

I am leaning towards number 2, but would like the opinion of the collective wisdom on this forum.

    Options for fix seem to be;
    1. buy a compressor rebuild kit
    2. replace with new compressor

Kits seem pretty good, - but compressor is 15 years old and should I just bite the bullet and replace ?

If replace do I stay with Hitachi or go with the AMK and Flash ECU ? (I have IID tool)

Before I spend $$ I am planning calibrate suspension with the IID tool - but I am thinking that just delays the inevitable.

Wishing you all a happy and prosperous New Year.

    Richard

The Hitachi unit is pretty bulletproof. The comp motor is protected from overload so unlikely to burn out. The issue is replacement compressors are most likely cheap copies. Stick with the same brand as whats fitted.

My suggestion is to do the kit, order the one from X8R with the alloy dessicant canister cover plate, new piston ring and all gaskets. Your dessicant is most likely gone to dust and now blocking the valve blocks at each corner, so they may need a cleanout too.

Mines now 10 yo and I've done only one rebuild with the kit as a preventative meadure and no issues before or since.

Like Eric said, though in my case the issue you have was from blocked filters in the desiccant canister from the desiccant turning to powder. I’ve had it twice now. The first time I did the rebuild and replaced the desiccant and filters from the kit.

The second time I removed the degraded desiccant beads and washed the filters, dried the desiccant out in the oven and reassembled. Another two years from it. That said Murphy’s law says tomorrow it will fail again.

Thanks - that seems a good plan and that one on EBay seems cheap enough.
Anyone got any feedback between XR8 rebuild kits and 4x4airseals rebuild kits ?

Both good but imho 4x4 is most dedicated and specialised to only this air part of the car and covers the whole bits and pieces in the comp and air block valves.

Lots of good videos too most helpful if you have questions also.

Don’t forget to pull off the electric motor cover and blow out dust and elec cleaner spray it like I did not. Doh! Probably equally as important in a old Hitachi unit. There’s a video for that also.

I like that the guy doing the videos on 4X4 air seals seemed to know a lot more about the suspension, they have also been very responsive to e-mails.

Also the added point of spending the time to clean the compressor motor !
