    Welcome Martin.
Extra will depend in what you want to do with your D3 where you will take it.

Have been on the sand a few times and spent a day in local state forest trying out the different TR modes. Will be repeating that! Going up to the Territory early next year for a few weeks barra fishing, towing a boat. My current thinking is bull bar, snorkel, long range tank, wheel carrier, UHF. to start with!

Hi All, Not long been a member, actually only since i got a D3 a few weeks ago. I've owned LR/RR for alot of years and this is the first one i've owned that is way to hard for me to figure out myself LOL.
Anyway point of this post is to say hi and ask where have ppl been fitting there UHF's in the D3?? I have seen some with the head unit hidden under the dash on the tunnel. Is it hard to get the panels off for access? Is there a trick to it?
I was also told that there is no holes in the firewall for the antenna cable? Is this true { i havne't looked yet} and if it is where have ppl been running the cable?
happy to listen to anyones personal experience.
    Thanks all

Hi Nomad- Try a search and also check The 'Good Oil' and the technical section. There are some good examples in there, and several tutorials. Also some good alternatives on where to mount the antenna.

    However a few quick points.
If you don't want the hassle of trying to mount the radio or remote radio head somewhere it can be safely seen, do yourself a favour and purchase one of the models with the controls and speaker in the microphone. This opens up your options in mounting the base unit. Some options you will see in your search. Up under the dash on the rh side of the steering wheel. In the coin tray slot. Under the seat. ( mine is under the seat, and moves with the seat to avoid problems with fouling on anything. )
If you check out the large grommet in the firewall, on the upper rh side. From memory it has a cable running through it. There is a nipple or somesuch under the cable, and it can be punctured from the engine bay side to open it up. It will allow a power or antenna cable access. There is another access point up under the sound proofing, below the steering wheel. On the original manual models, it was used I believe for a clutch cable access. It is a bitch to get to, but has a quite large hole available for access. Note, if you have a dual battery setup already installed, this access hole may already have been used.
Hope this helps. Check out the other channels, and try the search.
