I just bought a Lilliput 669GL-70NP/C/T 7" HDMI touchscreen which I'm going to try and squeeze into the cubby hole.

First impressions are that it will fit with a little persuasion. I'll then connect it to a Car PC that I'm going to buy tomorrow.

The Alpine isn't a touchscreen and can't be connected to a PC either.

I'm going to disassemble the Lilliput and either cut down the existing case or make a new one up to make it fit in.

mp3car.com has a lot of information about making a custom install get that factory-look.

For what its worth I'm no rocket-scientist in these matters, but I had an Alpine unit in my Landcruiser and it was absolutely brilliant - it definitely was a touch screen unit. It's iPod, DVD, and TV functionality was grouse.

The only let down was the navigation unit. Originally I had it fitted with a NesaNAV system which was the bees-knees - even had a lot of the dirt tracks on it and a great zoom feature.

However, when I came to update the maps I was told that NesaNAV wasn't doing them any more . So I upgraded the installation to include the new Alpine navigation unit - Version 1 = piece of crap (wrong directions - made me turn left instead of right once in Adelaide - and poor quality maps). If I could have hooked it up to a NavMan or TomTom it would have been fantastic.

    Regards, Ron

Yeah its definetly not sutiable for what i want.

I'm making a Car PC which will have a Windows or Linux PC runnig in the back.

Therefore I need a touchscreen with VGA \ DVI \ HDMI inputs.

One idea you have given me though is to get a case from the Alpine screen and retrofit the guts of my Lilliput into it. That would fitting it into the dash easy.

Just need to find a 2nd hand or damaged alpine screen now.

There is a conversion possible on the Kenwood 7" screens to enable usb output. I am just not sure how to get a decent image from the PC to the screen.

Given the Keenwood is a relatively easy mount it might be an option.
