    Cheers, Steve

I used to be a "Shell" boy years ago, and whilst towing a 5.5mt alloy boat, loaded with all the gear needed for 1 wife and 4 kids up to QLD, I tried quite a few different scenario's. At that time, Vortex 98 prooved to give me the best of everything. (we wrote down all miles/litres and $$ too) so it was full on, also gave description of route, you know know, hills etc encountered) Towing and being fully laden, you could notice everything that let you down in every way.
Having being broke for the last couple of years, I've only been useing the cheep stuff,, noticed the loss at first, but got used to it ,,, Now back with higher grade, the servo I go to stopped selling 98, 95 and 91, and went to 95 and 91 only (gas and Deisel too). I cant say I notice alot of difference between 95-98, but deffinately can feel it from 91-95.

And Drivesafe, I did wonder if it was contaminated,,, it may be time for me to do my filters, but I dont think so,,its a well used servo.

The other thing is, whilst there at the "BP" Wodonga servo, I purchased "Caltex" oil products, so who really supplies the fuel???? Every one seems to own everybody else, so whos fuel are we really buying,, and I cant keep up with it all.

But I like Caltex well,, my car does anyway,,,

BP Australia have stopped marketing their own lubricants in the automotive space. Apparently there has been a tie up between BP and CASTROL for some time and now BP service stations sell Castrol oil. I found out when I went to buy Corse plus for my ute and found out it's no longer made, had to use Castrol Edge instead.

Well I know the old ad said "Oils ain't oils" but I always thought that was just advertising chutzpah. So, I'd like to know what's wrong with Caltex too, as it is what I generally buy. I dislike Coles as a grocery shop, so it will be a big thing to change from Woolies. Mind you, at the end of the day I suppose I am only saving 90 litres x 4 cents ($3.60).

So, Drivesafe I'm not doubting you, but I'm one of those people who likes to understand things. Could you please explain how you came to this conclusion? Is it personal opinion via experience or scientific fact read somewhere?

Ahem...White D3: It appears that your Blue Smilie is hitting the Pink Smilie with a large fish. What should I glean from that? Are you advocating violence against women? I think we'd better clear this up now before I have to call Mrs Ho Har for back up.

And I'm shattered that you are discrimating against me just because of the frangipanis. What about a sticker saying "Magic Happens"? Would that still be a no-no?

Until Howard forced higher standards on the fuel industry, only Shell and BP guarantied the quality of their fuel.

New quality standards are being introduced, they are being phased in at gradually over a few years and will not be at the highest level of world parity until 2011.

The problem is that a couple of years back, when one of the mandatory increases in quality was to be met, Caltex requested an extension ( and got it ) as they still couldn’t produce their fuel at the next level of quality.

As posted, I only use BP and Shell and occasionally, Mobil and so far the only problem I have had was from Mobil when I filled up at one of their servos here on the coast.

I still had at least 4 Lts in the tank and managed to put another 106 Lts in.

Not bad for a 100 Lt tank.

PS, I hate shopping at both Woolies and Coles.

Thanks for that Drive Safe, I didn't know about it. I might play around with some different brands of fuel then and keep some stats on their performance to see what the difference means in mileage etc.

ETA: Dravesafe I meant to say too, that's a bit crook about the mismeasurement of the Mobil fuel. I've heard of that happening before too.

Last heard of deep in the wilds of South America. And he wasn't too well, so I'm getting a bit worried about him actually as he hasn't responded to any of my messages today. Maybe some boa constrictor has had him for lunch?
