And BTW... I had front control arms and bushes changed under standard warranty my a well known Melbourne dealer without even having to ask.... so obviously not all dealers are the same..

I bought extended warranty, and while I have not yet used it, I still have 20 months to go and personally I think the peace of mind is worth a fair bit...
I hope you all read the fine print, little things like the insurance companies preferred repairer (cause they were the cheapest quote), how long before an Assessor gets round to approving repairs, time limit on how long repairs may take, where is their nearest repair shop a hell of a lot of items not covered.
Can you get a refund of premiums paid if car is written off, can you cancel the policy and get (pro rata) return of premium, is it transferrable to next vehicle.
What, if any restrictions on vehicle use, what service conditions are required and by whom, be aware that these companies (including the big ones) will do everything in their power to avoid paying or honouring the warranty, don't rush in check them out first, I know from first hand experience, peace of mind will only be forthcoming IF they honour their contracts, good luck with that, Regards Frank.

Mine is original Land Rover... so exactly the same as original Warranty... not a third party version.

Same here - absolutely no issue with any claims. Very happy.

I had one with my D3 and had one small claim. Didn't with the D4 2.7 and in 4 years and 100k had no issues. 2 years and 45,000k in with the D4 SDV6 and no issues. I doubt I'd bother (given the cost) taking one out again.

Well, we had zip on the original 3 years for my Discovery 4 and then two items this year in year 5 of the factory warranty - firstly an air suspension pump which had to be replaced, and then a left front door actuator. So we al-most got back the warranty cost

I'm sorry to rain on your parade but unless something has dramatically shifted, your LR Extended Warranty is the Allianz Assured policy (Sold by LR, Underwritten by Allianz). It never used to be and I doubt if it is now, the same as the original OEM Warranty.

There are limitations, you need to look into them.

Allianz NEW VEHICLE Warranty is not offered by LR, yet it is as close to the original OEM Warranty that you can get. It used to be possible to get NEW at the same price as LR would offer their less comprehensive, if you found a decent Broker.

I got this cover for my first D4 and LR treat it like the real thing. There is another level of dicking around but LR do all the admin for you.....which in some ways seems strange but in others not so, as Allianz probably call the shots in this regard.

My info is a few years old, so things may have shifted .... the prices may have lowered and LR's cover may have improved .... but call me cynical

I got quoted nearly $4k for the extended warranty two weeks ago when I bought my D4.

At that price makes it very hard to justify.

Given all the good reports regarding D4's, you would think the price should be going down not up!!!!!

Will probably buy one just before tax time as at least some of the premium will be recoverable.

Extended warranty from non LR dealer, from $2k, but not as good as LR assured, even though both are underwritten by Allianz.

The one through a LR dealer has a no-cost roadside assist...both cover total claims up to the purchase price of the vehicle and up to market value for any single claim. Both expire when ODO reaches 200k.

The LR assured one must be done before standard 3 yr expires.

The generic Allianz one can be done after 3yr warranty has expired, must be done at point of sale though and dealer must be authorised by Allianz to sell it.

I'm sure there's more to it, but that's what I've managed to put in the memory bank for when I find the right one.

I'm certain there are other Allianz and non-Allianz extended warranties that are not as good as the LR Extended (ASSURED) Warranty .... but there is (or used to be) a better than LR Assured offered by Allianz called (NEW). That one is not offered by LR but is as close to the LR original as you are going to get......and it's the same price if you shop around.

Time will tell I guess, but it was sold to me using exactly that phrase, by the service manager of the dealership that has serviced it since I've owned it. And it's them I will be working through for any warranty claim.

Their work and reaction to warranty claims has been first class..including sorting things under warranty that existed when I purchased the car.

I'm still comfortable with my decision, had I not had such a good relationship with the dealer I might think differently.

The one I had on the 2007 D3 was Allianz. No issues with the claim I made to do with steering linkages.
