    Interesting

New FJs are ugly as imo, unless they are fully done up, then they can look good.

What design approach are some of this group hoping for? Rugged? Durable? Utilitarian? Looks like a defender but modern? Or Carbon copy of current Defender?

If you look at a photo of the FJ next to this photo of what could be the new Defender and could be an old Concept, there are very few similarities imo.

Also the lights don't match up on the pilots to the new defender outline so I'm guessing they are using an old pre concept outline to drum up pre orders, but then again who knows, maybe pilots running fake lights.

Also spare exposed on pilots bottom half covered in outline.

My guess its not legit, but interesting.

ignore that, it's just a dealership looking to create a bit of content. That is just the rear of a DC100:

Just a slight diversion...going back to 2011 and the particular DC100 in this photo, ignoring the general aesthetics of it, there are a few things to like about it like the good rim and and tyre combo, generally good ground clearance, approach/ramp over/departure angles, decent recovery points etc. If those general characteristics are carried over into the new Defender then there will be some hope.

It's fine if they want to capture the lifestyle market by adding modcons and low profile tyres (afterall that's where they'll make their money). Hopefully though, LR will also allow the vehicle to come in the guise of something more purposeful as alluded to by that old pic:

(PS Goingbush, I didn't know you had put in a special order all the way back then. Never knew you were such a fan )

In case you were firing that in my direction should clarify, in no way do I think the DC100 was a viable successor to the Defender. I am merely pointing out that there were some aspects of that concept that indicated a hint of hope for the future Defender reincarnation. I hope you can see that.

Not at all... The new Defender media vacuum and the race to claim first intel is hilarious in general. Even JLR and their dealers are tripping over themselves!

The marketing gumf being touted as fact by most in the media and the constant use of DC100 images despite it being dead in the water is pretty funny too.

...I’d be surprised if JLR approved that dealer Ad.

Compare this whole strategy and media response to say the clean, clear, purposeful launch of the new G Wagen ...JLR and it’s acolytes all look pretty silly IMO.

    All good.

Yes, I agree. It is ridiculous that some dealership marketing departments take it upon themselves to produce that kind of crap. It's misleading and in no way helps the situation. No doubt at all a great majority of the information being generated is to draw traffic to websites. The only info furnished directly by land rover is from interviews with LR executives where they have been asked directly. Even then they are coy about it.

Yeah, the DC100 as a replacement for the Defender was a complete joke. I think LR could have done well with that as a completely new model that had nothing to do with the Defender. No one would have batted an eyelid and they would have had a vehicle for that "lifestyle" market. Perhaps it should have been the Disco Sport

The fact that LR tied the DC100 to the Defender was their undoing and it burnt them badly and, I think, it's the very reason why they have been so tight lipped about the new iteration.

Anyway more speculation to pad out the thread...as if it needed it
    Cheers,

Spot on! Using logic some of the DC concept will no doubt come over.

Unfortunately that is part of the problem for JLR. Not only are they attempting to launch a new ‘icon’ (impossible), but they must also counteract their own previous trivialisation if the icon - the DC100.

IMO...if JLR are confident in the new Defender, they should have said nothing about it until it was actually ready to be unveiled. Then it would potentially have had wow factor.

Instead they just invite either ongoing pointless speculation, or criticism. This may have continued anyway, but fuelling the fire could really backfire if the new Defender takes ANY cues from the DC100.

All good points, After the discussion on this thread I have also looked back at the DC100 and would be very happy with some of its features, others not so much.

You can see the leaked interior is a scaled back version of DC100, with middle seat added instead of console.

I would say roof and guards will somewhat match concept too.
