I think the point he was trying to make was dont hate modern LR's unless you have tried it.
This is their most impressive 4x4 currently imo, my fav is exit of water crossing at 5mins.

At the same time as much as i would love to have many of the new JLR cars, nothing has compelled me like the New Defender.
Land rover have redesiged the new Defender to modern standards becuase they HAVE to, to be able to keep it in the market.
They built it to be extremely capable offroad, onroad and have a full EV version coming, which will be a newer more comfortable and reasonably reliable version of what you have built.
In the meantime they give us Hybrid which is also the most practical for touring+day to day short trips in AU.
Based on your series build and how passionate you are with electric 4x4s, people could be forgiven for thinking this would be right up your alley.
However I get the bare bones attraction for you with the Bollinger, but for many reasons its not for me, there is also no guarantee when it will be avail, if its coming to AU or what if any safety it will have.
Rivian would be more likely to hit AU before Bollinger, thoughts on the Rivian? I like the RRC looking one, but full EV would not be practical for me for the touring i do at this stage.
This could give us pretty solid clues on engine options for new defender.
2020 Range Rover's Lineup, Including a Plug-In Hybrid – Prices, Details
About 3.5 years ago I had a hole burning in my pocket and visited a Land Rover Dealer. I already had multiple LR’s at home, so wanted to make stable “ALL LR”.
The dealer had 1x110 and 1xFL2. I test drove a Discovery Sport but it just didn’t float my boat.
(I was really after a 90)
Looking at the DS - everything was an option. And I mean EVERYTHING. The standard colour was white, ANY other colour was $2k-$5k option!
Anyway on the day I had a **** salesman that looked down on me (he was in a suit, I was in jeans and a t-shirt)
He couldn’t answer most of my questions on the DS because it “had just been released”
Clearly I got the wrong salesman on the day.
I walked out and bought another brand after being very frustrated with the treatment that I received from the salesman.
I hope and pray the same thing doesn’t happen with the new Defender. I will also be trying another dealer or two...![]()
88 Perentie FFR - Club Rego
93 Discovery 1 200 Tdi - Club Rego
03 130 Td5 Single Cab
06 Discovery 3 Petrol
22 Defender 90 - Full rego
Disagree. They make money of such people indirectly because it frees up the seller to go and buy a new LR...I lot of Defender owners would not buy a new LR unless they could move their old one on for reasonable coin. Don't also undervalue the value of having iconic shapes of the brand scooting round 20, 30, 40 years on such as D2 and Defender....that's what keeps LR.iconic, keeps interest up, is the reason Disco Sport has so many LR and Disco badges and decals on it for e.g..
Cheers
The problem with 'modern' 4WD's and modern cars in general, the "improvements" through successive models are not necessarily what the Motoring Public needs they are pushed upon us by marketing & 'blokes' in Lilac Jackets
IMO Hybrid is a mistake, they are simply a emissions cheat / workaround, will be frowned upon in a 10 years. Either your small battery & motor is carting around all that ICE junk = less efficiency or the ICE is burdened with the extra weight of battery , combines the most complex & worst of ICE & Electric in one lump. Bad idea all around but Im sure people will jump on them to make themselves fell good thinking they are helping the planet. Again marketing works. Look at the stupid Toyota Self Charging baloney.
Rivian may very well hit AU before Bollinger, but it's not my cup of tea for the same reasons the LR2020 looks like it wont be, nor are most modern cars. I realise no one is going to build a vehicle just for troglodytes like me but the Bollinger is very close to my ideal so I'll wait for it. (but the wait wont be as long as you've been waiting for your new "Defender" .)
Good points for sure, many of the newer options can be not selected and they can be fairly bare bones if you dont get carried away on the car builder(which i always do)most of my day to day trips would be under the hybrid limit. Then touring would be over full evs current limits.
I guess it depends what your doing.
Bolly is a great idea and i get the atraction, how do you think they will operate in AU logistically, sales/service etc in the short term. I guess same goes with Rivian or any startup?
