Yes, but driveways are not quoted usually online, so its easier to quote RRP.

Carsguide is usually a good indication and takes out the guessing.

Also driveways vary from dealer to dealer which leaves final price up to buyers haggle power.

Using your base driveways at + $6k add more for D5, defender sits nicely inbetween.

DS: 62

New Defender: 70

D5: 79

I can't see the business case for new defender costing more than the D5, more stuff = more money so D5 should be more.

I guess it all comes down to value, if the new Defender offers significant value to a buyer over the D5, who knows what the base could be same or higher

They also need to ensure they hit the sweet spot of being not too expensive and not too cheap at base level. Remember base for the defender is most likely going to be quite utilitarian compared to D5.

Agreed, Plenty of members on here with new Lrs too, the moneys there..100k today is not the same as 100k 20 years ago or even 10.

Its a fair point however there is evidence to point to multiple body styles of normal defender

At those prices the only business land rover will take away from anyone is themselves , whose going to buy any of the current crop if they land a more capable, newer model in the same price range.

As you say , they either adjust pricing on the clones , which would seem unlikely , so my thoughts are Aus will only see the 2 top spec versions and priced at $100K plus. $100K may have been acceptable 5-10 yrs ago during the mining and housing boom , but that's finished , along with interest only loans , so all of a sudden $100k isn't as palatable as it was , when in reality most 4wds are just a soccer bus and a once in a while dirt road tourer.

There will always - well in the close future be a need for a tow tug , but Toyota will be preference of choice because of L/R poor reputation for reliability. JLR have a hard road ahead of them in Aus , and I don't think we will see much change with the launch of the pretender defender.

Again just my thoughts .

Next Land Rover Defender likely to keep boxy roots







The outline image of the Defender appears to be quite accurate, from what we know so far. This is why I'm suggesting a chamfered bonnet - and a sloping roof.

I reckon the Defender Sport will be in dual cab pricing territory and the Defender will start below the D5, but there will be lots of versions and options and it could hit $100k at the top. But that's only a wild guess of course.

I’m gonna put this one out there: based on the LR brand segmentation strategy that they’ve been super clear about, I reckon the interior of the new Defender is going to be significantly less fancy and more hard-wearing than even the Discovery.

Defender is the part of the lineup that’s optimised for practicality over luxury or image. Not that it completely abandons comfort and style but I think it’ll be clear why “soccer mums” would be more inclined for a Disco and the “bankers” will drive to the office in a Rangie.

Not saying they’re likely to be cheap, but I am hopeful that they’ll be satisfyingly practical.
