But that is way oversize,looking at OEM sizes on LR's current crop of vehicles,and the future Deefer if we can go by the spy pics.

Can be done,but can cause all sorts of issues and huge costs,particularly on late model independently sprung vehicles,with EAS.

For example,a 265/65/18 LT tyre would suit many off roaders,and is a very common size.

But LR seem to have other ideas?

That is very close to D5 OEM diameter and fits D4 without any major issues. So it should be fine for the Defender too. What would be better is the next common size up in 18” but I’ll be happy enough with 265/65

G’day Scott. A 265/65R18 is gonna be nearly half an inch smaller than the standard 32” size we’re seeing on these Defender shots. I suspect maybe you’re keen on that size because of an LT option... any particular tire in mind?

Sadly there are no KO2 LTs that will comfortably fit the Defender on 18” rims, other than that 265/65. Looks like a bunch of potential options from the Nitto Terra Grappler G2s though.

Landrover seem to be building a vehicle that is very low compromise with the new defender imo. Time will tell.

Would pricing be considered a compromise?

I know we know sod all about this but given we can all assume it won’t be priced like the previous Deefer, that comes into the equation IMO.

All 4X4s are a comprimise vehicle these days. Defenders are at the off road capable end of the spectrum, as such the tyres should be matched to the intended use. Range Rovers are at the opposite end of that spectrum, with Discoverys and Freelander bridging the gap. If you're after a high speed tourer, with off road capability, look further across the spectrum.

Seems to me LR are trying to market very similar (upmarket/ expensive) vehicles with different bodies.

I was referring to the new defender specifically.

I have spent many years and much $'s building the ultimate low compromise vehicle, from where I'm sitting the new defender will leave it for dead, in most scenarios.

Hence why I'm interested and excited.

Landrover are on record saying the new defender will be priced from volume buyers through to high end, so should be fine in that regard too.

If you want more stuff, you have to pay for it, but good to know it will start at a reasonable level.

My wording is low compromise, not no compromise.

KO2 LT in 275/65/18 is a 32",is on the BFG Aus site,so i would presume is available.

Probably no where near as common as the 265/65/18,unless its used by the jap brigade.
